To be honest being pro i figured id get more features and points 3 and 5 could be pro only options
5. arrays, lists tables whatever you want to call them they are essential 4. box2d shapes - support triangle, quad (allocate 4 vertices x,y) and custom draw collision boundary box editor (other game editor software has this) 3. custom scene transitions - either fx shite like in every movie prog or ability to create with behaviours and actors - or basically make a sceen type and have it as 'game' or 'transition' 2. a grid option in the editor so i can bloody see the x,y positions and with snap feature 1. 'sort actors by a-z', and some 'view by' options for the inspector panel - when working on a macbook pro 13 i need screen estate
1. Ability to select/move multiple onscreen objects together. 2. Align tool to align multiple items. 3. Resize tool to allow multiple onscreen objects to be collectively resized. 4. ability to type (or paste) code into attribute boxes instead of having to select fixed pathway to items.
Imagine trying to line up 30 small buttons onscreen, and then changing which level each one jumps to manually without the above.
1. An inspector type window that can be used to look at the attributes of an actor 2. ios keyboard functionality 3. more swipe improvements 4. Choose between predefined loading symbol or a (pro only) custom loading symbol 5. Choose between predefined gs splash screen for basic 6. ability to build the app on your computer rather than the gs server 7. Better service and fix links (The download page on the wiki, and the contact us page won't submit) 8. Ability to look at your attribute as the game progresses 9. Ability to delete all saved atributes to make reseting the game much easier 10. pixel collision 11. gradient/pattern options for an imageless actor 12. ability to import custom fonts 13. video 14. speed, faster loading times and compatibility with lion 15. Profile walls can come back from vacation now!
1. better scene management tools (i.e. the handles for rotating and moving objects need to be on the outside of smaller objects. It's almost impossible to move them without re-sizing them, plus what others have said.) 2. Game Center Achievements 3. Social Network integration 4. Pixel collision (Or whatever it's called) 5. Better loading/custom load screens or icons 6. IAP This can eliminate the need for lite versions and makes less barrier for entry
When moving objects around in the scene editor allow user to "shift" then arrow to move in 10px blocks (like Photoshop).
Make it easier to click and drag objects around. At the moment when objects are quite small there resize handles get in the way when you want to drag them around. A possible fix for this would be to put the transform handles on the outside of an object.
Allow variables in the load/save attribute - this would save so much time. We could make one save rule and just change one variable in each scene instead of having to retype everything.
Allow multiple selections in the layer inspector. So you don't have to drag objects one by one.
When you drag on object onto the stage it would be nice to make it so its placed directly above the object thats currently selected instead of going straight to the top - this would save a lot of time re-organising layers.
When dragging an object it would be nice if when you hit shift it locks you into an axis - like in Photoshop. This makes it easier to place something 200px to the right quickly whilst keeping the same Y value.
When you expand a rule to see everything - sometimes you don't realise there's rules in the "otherwise" bit - it would be good if they were marked in some way.
Be able to click on an actor in the scene editor and cmd c/cmd v to quickly copy & paste it.
When previewing your game on iphone - if its a large game it can take quite a while to load… even if you just want to preview one level. Maybe via checkboxes you could allow the user to just preview certain scenes so you don't have to wait for the whole app to load.
- Social network integration. - Improved loading times. What I really mean by this is that I find it silly that there is a work around to make the loading times shorter. It should do it automatically. -A way to track in app statistics. The amount of times a level has been played, that sort of thing. -IAP for the same reason as everyone else -A more stable creator. Many of my projects have ended up with a corrupted actor that wont let me access it's rules. The sound bug on older iMacs. It's rather large problems like that that need to get sorted out first.
1 - Improved loading times (so quick you hardly know its loading between scenes). 2 - In App Purchases (to offer a free version and reel in those sales for more levels etc). 3 - To be able to hide unhide layers would be nice. With an option to remain hidden at run time or just whilst working on the game. 4 - To be able to lock layers so if you zoom in the camera they are not affected. 5 - The ability to rotate the camera.
PLEASE PORT TO WINDOWS!!! I love GameSalad, and It would be great on my laptop with Windows 7 on it. MANY, MANY MORE PEOPLE WOULD USE IT IN THIS CASE! Please do it.
iOS Keyboard (many others have said this but it is NEEDED!) Facebook/Twitter CUSTOM LOADING SCREENS! The progress indicator is UGLY! Videos support CUSTOM FONTS WOULD MAKE US ALL VERY, VERY HAPPY! (Or at lease let us use our Mac OSX System fonts that we have installed)
But, still, this is THE BEST game making platform for iOS! THANK YOU GAMESALAD TEAM!
Here's my 2p, based upon features that will enable me to create a higher quality app. Arranged in order of importance
- improved editor stability - Better in-game performance (more particles, faster frame-rates, etc). - Snap to grid and visible grid in editor - Editor zoom -The ability to hide and lock layers so they are easier to work with. -Tables / arrays - make GS scripts easier to read especially when working on a large, nested condition. -The ability to sort and categorize attributes (so I can have a 'player 1' section, a 'bullets' section, etc. Can roll them up like a directory browser).
Something I'd like to request... and forgive me if someones already mentioned it... is the ability to import and use tilemap data. Its a traditional method of optimising graphics for largescale maps, and tied in with some of the rather good tilemap editors available, would give GameSalad a much more user friendly, efficient and more precise way of creating large scale optimised gameworld scenes.
Im currently working on tiles and tilemaps for an iphone game for a client, and can see how GameSalad games could really benefit from having the ability to import such tiles & maps.
I'd suggest using the .TMX map format, making GameSalad compatible with the popular open source tile editor Tiled.
Free to play is the way to go. It is called the gaming of the future and already the big brands shift to "free to play" rather than "pay to play". Look at Sega and Spiral Knights. So we NEED inApp purchases
2. multiplayer (live)
I´m new to Gamesalad but i really don´t get how in 2011 a game engine does not support multiplayer. hello?
3. Pull data from Web / Api / Server / Rss inApp
This is crucial in todays fast online world. An App NEEDs to be able to pull live data from Web / Api / Server / Rss - think about all the wonderfull things you could do with Gamesalad if it could pull data. Think about the millions of customers you could serve! - this is a huge market and a very very important feature
4. 3D
Yepp, super important. Even 2D games use 3D element today and 3D also is important for game physics.
Grid, Snap to Grid, Easy access to xy coordinate info of an actor.
Ability to adjust program view. I am developing for iPad, and would like to see the entire scene at once. This would include a zoom function, small icons without text in the toolbar, and easily shrink or hide the inspector and library toolbars.
Scene transitions. Fade to a color, Zoom, Alpha shaded. It makes the game classy.
Swipe. A key interface mechanic that is not only the cornerstone of top games (fruit ninja, cut the rope, etc.) but is expected by the user. For the love, its the first touch motion needed to use the iOS devices! (Slide to unlock, anyone?)
Arrays. Save time and code!
Memory Management!
Otherwise:
Live data updating / receiving.
In app purchases. Quickly becoming the standard of mobile gaming. I would go pro for this.
Facebook/Twitter integration. Would go pro for this too.
Essentially, I think most people (myself included) would go pro if I could use GameSalad to make a game that is on par (feature-wise) with the top competition.
Thanks for the hard work on an excellent piece of software!
Just something I noticed in GameSalad: The more rules you put into one rule following Otherwise(example:Rule1,otherwise Rule2(otherwiseRule3[otherwiseRule4{otherwiseRule5}])), the smaller the rule gets, and the less it, and everything else in it, you see. This is annoying for me, because it makes it incredibly tough to access them: you have to drag it OUT, edit it, then drag it back IN. This is a pain in the neck for me, because I am working with a lot of OTHERWISES. An easier thing to do would be: when you mouse over OR click on the rule, it would expand for you to see everything in it. Then, when you mouse away or click another rule, the first rule would shrink again and the other rule would expand.
It's a long post, but a quick line of code from your Programmers at GameSalad, Inc. would make this post moot. And isn't that what should be happening in this thread?

2.) publish to android. Would also go pro.
These are very important to me.
- have info panel on scene page so you can get exact measurements when placing actors ( x, y, rotation)
- reduce load time of scenes.
- options for changing / removing spinning ball when changing scene
- have animations for when loading is going on
- use jpgs as well as png
- off centre rotation of actors (rotating actors around a point that is not the centre)
- improved editor stability
- Better in-game performance (more particles, faster frame-rates, etc).
