*prays for the art to be watermarked*

Totally uncalled for... The whole debate about the dba templates has been hyped [as far as I can see it mainly fueld by plain envy] and if I decide to give away my art for free use it's up to me to do so and I am not getting pressured by some kids on this forum thinking that it will kill their chances of making it big... Our apps - even in the template form that Darren, Wayne and myself provide them - still outclass most of the work done in Gamesalad and show what potential GS has... I am really getting annoyed with this discussion...

We make games and templates because we enjoy doing it - people using the templates for their own purposes other than learn from them are out of our responsibility... It's like building a Porsche then being pushed to limiting it to 30km/h because in the hands of a bad driver it could be harmful to others...

This forum has some serious growing up to do!

^I would disagree with some of that. DBA makes amazing templates and offers them at incredibly low prices. So it is very common to see multiple unchanged or barely changed templates uploaded to the app store right after release. That is a little discouraging for customers that bought a template and then invested time and money into it only to be beaten to the market by someone trying to make a quick buck.

I just think it looks bad when there are a bunch of games that look identical in the app store.

Just my opinion and yes I will be buying this template as I have pretty much all of the other DBA templates.

But ... If you buy the same template, someone releases before you unchanged, you however take the template and change it to make it your own, then you have completely different games, no worries then right? You can't worry about the unchanged version being on the market quicker than yours, for instance, this will be a JetPack Joyride type template, well, thats already on the app store and has already been a success, so theres going to be identical looking games again when you and others release your template of this, changed or not. The best advice i could give is simply stop worrying about it, get your version, change it up, add to it and most of all learn from it :)

Well said Beefy....the idea of these templates from my point of view is to use the code, you may not even want to make a jetpack type game but could find some of the logic useful for different games.

A small number of things i have been working hard on include:

This will have a nice magnitude code for the distance even with the hero resetting back (took me 3 hours of trying different things to find a perfect solution) i found magnitude the only way to go because you will want to increase the speed of the hero and its so accurate even after you die and bounce a little it will continue to add to your distance.

There will be random power ups and all the code that teaches you best practice for doing something similar in your own games from image swapping to control methods relating to these power ups.

Unfortunately GS wont let you change the attributes of an actor (say you want to change the restitution of an actor via a boolean) so i had to work round things like that and i show you how.

Seamless scene camera set back is also in this, the scene is 4800 long so massive scope to build a nice endless type game..I have used this in our upcoming game Nightmare (wip title).

It was suicide to move all of the actors left and keep hero still for a game with so much going on so unlike our runner template i had to think of another way.

It has a run count so it counts up by 1 each time you make it to the end so actors react differently determined on how well your doing.

It's currently running at 50-55fps on an old 2nd gen device and if you know what I'm like with fps OCD:) you will get the most optimized version i can possibly give you.

At the end of the day i try my hardest to provide quality code for you to implement in your own games.

I really can't thank everyone enough for the amazing support over at DBA but it hurts when i see a race to the app store to release as-is because those people are completely missing the point of my templates.

wow no offense was meant in anyway! It was just a joke, honestly. It looks like an amazing template, with amazing art as usual. It was just since all of that fuss that you mentioned that had been going on about watermarking, I thought I would slide a joke in. But I guess that failed at launch. I know that none of the copycat games (submitted templates) will never make it (hopefully).

It was honestly a joke. Nothing personal was intended. Yes, the forum does need to grow up a little, but people also need to be able to relax and joke around here and there. If I had any intention on pissing you guys off I wouldn't have said anything. With kids in highschool, you are going to hear jokes here and there. What's so bad about that? with kids in middle school, or just getting into highschool or onto a forum for the first time, things won't be so pretty.

I have nothing against you guys. Hope you understand.

I was wondering about the stash shop, chuffed you added that
  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
:) the shop was pretty easy to code tbh, it will have at least 3 examples so you can easy add more or understand how to do more for your own game/s.

Looks awesome. I'm not looking for a jetpack joyride clone template but i can definitely use alot of your code. One question though, how difficult would it be for me to convert to iPad?
  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
If you use our resizer pretty easy, i might make a video to show how easy after i have finished it.

I love Darrens resizer but for my latest app, This method saved so much more time that the resizer ever has. Prob wont work for every situation though but its definitely worth a try.

The guy is glitchy on my system. Like he jumps forward about 10 pixels then jumps back, all in about .5 sec....I rebooted my machine and it still does it. I'm running Lion, 8gb ram. Havent tried it on the iPhone or in Snow Leopard yet. Anyone else have this prob? I'm rebooting back to snow leopard and see what happens.
  • fzeedfzeed Member Posts: 247
Yup, its still glitchy looking in Snow Leopard. Im using GS 9.7.1
If i remove the images and just have a box, the box does it too!
  • chaleychaley Member, PRO Posts: 226
Yea... My guy is glitchy, too. He moves back and fourth when he hits the top and bottom bumpers.
  • sdsmith64sdsmith64 Member Posts: 221

  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
I'm looking into it but it's not happening on my machine very often...bare with me guys as i have sent it off to the gs team.

The new version has messed the gravity up a little, again GS are aware of this.
