Thx RedSky, i don't think I'm gonna make my 72 Hr deadline that i had set but I'm gonna keep going and eventually publish it to the GS Arcade for fun lol
So I have finished all the basic GAMEPLAY !! I have a FULLY FUNCTIONAL GAME MADE IN GS !! It may not be a crazy insane great game, but I gotta admit I feel pretty comfortable ( not expert obviously ) and proud that I set out to do it and I did.
***WITH THAT SAID***
I will now begin more advance things like adding a score and power ups and of course SOUND !! haha. Thx a lot for all the Forums support. I will post a video soon !!
Im uploading a video now ... should be up within the next 15-20 mins. Its just gonna show general gameplay and what i was able to learn in just a 72 Hrs of working with gamesalad ! Again, its not the game of the year but Ive learned a lot !!
@SaladSraightShooter : Thx a lot !! Im really enjoying just learning right now before I really dive in majorly !! I don't want to make the mistake that I've seen a lot before when newbies will dive in head first, get overwhelmed and leave GS for good and make up some excuse about why !!
OK SO HERE IS THE LINK !!
LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK AND WHAT I CAN ADD !! I WANT TO DO POWER UPS, ECT.
So I just saw a post on the GameSalad FaceBook Page on my thread and all i can say is WOW !! thx for the support !! and thx for making such a tool that we can all make great games from !! KEEP IT UP !!
@informedstudios : yea no problem. I'm not planning to sell this game so I don't think I'll really be paying for art. But I'll keep you in mind when I move on to my "Real" game. I'm just learning as much as I can right now about GS !! Thx again !!
its 2:54 AM and I just had my first "IT JUST CLICKED" moment in GS !! that moment when you go AHHH DUH !! and the code then "just clicks" or in the words of the late and great Steve Jobs "It just works" !! Man that felt good. On to some more GS-ing !!
***NOTE*** - I POSTED THIS IN ITS OWN THREAD SO IT HAS A BETTER CHANCE AT GETTING ANSWERED, THX ***
So I have searched everywhere from Yooutube to TSB's gshelper.com and for the life of me I can't find not even a simple tutorial on how to add power ups in your games, kinda like Jetpack joyride but all i need is simple things just to learn some logic and code behind it. Like I'm working on a simple breakout type game ( much simpler tho ) and i was thinking about adding a random power up that gave the player like "Multi Balls" and then if those new balls "died" it would not affect the player until there was one left. Im not sure if I'm making any sense here, well i hope ya'll can help me with this or its back to the drawing board for me, lol
First create an actor called extra lives. Then say actor receives event when overlaps or collides with actor of type main character. Then add a timer that says after 0.1 seconds destroy this actor.
Next in your main character have a rule that says every random(x,y) seconds, spawn actor "extra lives" wherever you want it to.
Then in your character say actor receives event when overlaps or collides with actor of type "extra lives" change attribute game.lives to game.lives+1
Or you could change extra lives to anything else you want, and make it do anything you want. Those are just the basics.
@informedstudios : Oh well in THAT case , no I'm jus playing, but when i get a good enough game going I'll keep you in mind. I do like to actually pay for work tho two reasons 1) I believe that if you ( or me ) have a talent then its ok to price it by what its worth. 2) Honestly, you get what you pay for. and if I pay someone for something, I expect to be happy with it. and until that happens then the job isn't done same thing I apply to myself when I'm recording a client in the studio. I work FOR THEM since they are the ones PAYING ME. lol, sry to go off on a tantrum but its just i see a lot of "gimme this and let me have that" in the forums and it really shouldn't be that way ( not that I'm not grateful of your helpfulness !! ) Not that at all !! but you know what i mean ... right ? LOL.
Great game so far, also good challenge,, if you dont mind and since your not uploading it to apple,,you should upload the download link for it,, that would be great.. Also again you made that fast!!
@Kirk1234 : That sounds like a good idea !! I think I'll do that within the next couple days. Im gonna see if I can add one or two more things to it and then I'll give it away. artwork and all because most of the art is off the internet and I wasn't planning on selling it . Thx for the great tip
Just noticed a couple of comments in the thread so also just want to help clarify. I bought full rights to Fat Owl iphone/ipad from Ace. I sold full rights to Fat Owl iphone/ipad to Leonard Developer. So the only person that should be using the art/template is Leonard Developer unless he gives his permission to do so.
