The referral screen?

I was looking through the post about the new update and it mentioned there will be a referral screen after the dev splash screen for basic users. So is it basically an advertisement before your game even starts? I'm kind of confused.

Not sure how much I like that... I guess I can't complain about a free product though

I'll probably upgrade to pro soon... I just wish they made it a little bit cheaper.

You will have your own splashScreen and then a BIG AD for ANOTHER game from PlayHaven that your user will have to click a button to escape…
after that your game will start!

so the product is free to use … but your game will generate money for PlayHaven and GS

Is it possible to delete the referral screen with the free version of GS ?
  • MeinMilchKaffeeMeinMilchKaffee Member, PRO Posts: 114
But I have already updated to 9.91. How can I downgrade to 9.90 ?
I think the GS screen is much better than that AD.
    Thanks!

I've heard that there might be a pricing change soon.

Would now be a good time to upgrade to pro or should I wait?

You can always wait until you want to publish.

    @saladstraightshooter

So do playhaven have a set amount that they pay per install? Or is it different per advertiser? I'm guessing who ever made the deal with them must have all the average figures...?

I agree with QS. Let users have a set of choices. The thinking behind the iap model could be applied to GS.

@Rob2 do you know that's true or are you just guessing?

$149 would be a huge decrease in price

@T8TRG8TR - I can confirm that @Rob2 is sharing inaccurate information, as we have not decided on any new pricing models.

It will come up after your splash screen and display an ad to bring you to a different game.

"I really think GS needs to dump that idea. I cant stay on an old version forever."

    Buy the Pro version ?

@Tynan I'm not complaining about it. I understand that GS is a business and they need to make money, and they don't make any money off of free users ATM. I'm just saying that I won't update for now.

I'm probably going to upgrade soon, I just want an official word on whether a price change is coming.

yes spend $500 just to get rid of PlayHaven!

I don't want the stuff in Pro … I don't want my costumers to have to buy anything but the game … and I certainly don't want to have them have to click on an ad to get to play that game!

but would pay $99 to kill the PlayHaven …

I would far prefer the splash screen to the referral screen (sorry John, just my opinion!) and I'm sticking with 0.9.90 for that very reason.

Ditto to @MH and @RKS as well: I'd gladly pay $99 to kill PH. Or persuade GS HQ that because GSC is still in beta, we could have a choice as free users between the splash and PH; PH for free users as a pre-requisite when the GSC is out of beta... (if its still free then...)

PS Not only do I know I'll never use PH, I know I'll never use Kiip either; but I'm sure there are a lot of users who will.

PPS I too will buy pro when I've made some money from my apps... GS HQ deserve it.... (and I'll be able to switch off PH ;-) )

    "I'm not complaining about it."

My comment wasn't aimed at you. Gamesalad can't really win here, any kind of attempt to monazite it's business is met with outrage from some group of disgruntled users. But in reality a whole range of options are available, the new version with the PlayHaven ad, the old version with the Gamesalad ad (splash screen) - or the Pro version where you can leave in or take out what you want, but what people really want is a free application, regularly updated with decent technical support that is researched and designed and produced and distributed for free with no cost for usage or royalties so that the end user can make money from it while the unpaid Gamesalad staff live on the sofas of their friends and relatives. 8-X

"I'm just saying that I won't update for now / I'm probably going to upgrade soon"

I'm in the same situation, I'm not upgrading - not because I think Gamesalad trying to pay their own staff a wage is some kind of outrage ;) but because I think it's a very bad move to be the first to upgrade any software when you have a working copy (albeit with quite a few long standing bugs) in front of you.

"I'm probably going to upgrade soon

Again, same here, I think application splash screens and ads ruin the look of a nice game so I am probably going to invest the $500 (which I don't think is an unreasonable price).

really? i always thought u were pro.

    @cry babies

seriously? ok then go learn lua, or xcode and code your game up! good luck finishing your game in decent time and less frustration tho. lol

i think you guys seriously need to appreciate whats at hand here. a GREAT game building software for the top mobile gaming market.if you create a good game, no splash screen will stop it from selling. if your game sucks, well then its not the splash screen's fault. jeez.

what a stupid idea, makes my app a cheap offering, when i release my app and some pays £0.69 for it, they are not going to be happy with the ads!!

I think its really cheap of GameSalad to crap on us free users, the reason why im free, because i dont need the features of PRO as of yet, and i cant afford the huge amount for pro.

Why are people ok with this? talking to free members!!
