@beefy_clyro - watched both in a cafe with two big screens side by side... A little sad that the dutch didn't make it... but I honestly think they didn't deserve any better... just wish it was not CR9s night (really don't like him)... As for the Germany vs Denmark game - good game with the Germans dominating but missing too many chances... in the end they won and are playing Greece on Friday - won't be a better game (more like the Chelsea vs Munich game) with Greece most likely parking a bus in front of their goal and waiting for the one counter attack to score a goal and then run down the clock.
@SpriteAttack Nicely done with the 2 screens .. Im glad the Dutch didn't make it, think they've very arrogant throughout, have all that attacking talent but not functioning as a team at all.
Yeh hate Ronaldo, hell of a player but just hate his demeanour!
Feel a bit sorry for the Croatians, watched the Spain v Croatia and wow how did he not score with the header?

    England 2morro...nervous already lol.

    Darren.
@UtopianGames Yeh gotta admit I felt a bit sorry for them too! Usually love watching Spain, same with Barcelona but recently started going off both ... I actually ended up falling asleep for the second half and woke up when the goal happened. The header was the chance Croatia just simply had to take!

Now on to the big one ... Come on England!

Bad performance and Wayne Rooney was rubbish but so pleased we made it and also topping the group, i just hope we play better v Italy.

@Darren... sorry, mate.. but that was one of the worst games I have seen - well next to Chelsea winning the champions league... England was absolutely rubbish... they lost nearly all 1:1 and the midfield was not there... Rooney scoring was a present by the goaly... and then getting a clear goal not awarded on the other end is more luck than even the lions deserve... What a bunch of overrated sissies... I really hope the Italian sent them home with a 4:0 to put things back in perspective...
Typically English tournament really, really bad but lucky and hence totally unrealistic and thinking they are a lot better than they really are... Any half decent opponent would have punished a defense this bad...

I hope the beer was better than the kick, mate.
  • beefy_clyrobeefy_clyro Member Posts: 5,394
@SpriteAttack Yes the goal that never was, could be classed as lucky, but even the attempt itself should be classed as lucky ... The guy was offside ... The chance shouldn't of even been allowed to develop. Still, if you're going to win any tournament you will need a bit of luck here and there.

Was a bad performance but guess what? Who cares .. we won, topped the group and still undefeated. Every English fan knows we're average at best, why do you think Hodgson has us playing defensively? He knows if we attack we'll be ripped apart.
As for playing this way, in cup football, it can win you the coveted prize, i still do not think we will beat Italy but Chelsea weren't expected to win the Champs League with knocking out teams like Barcelona and Bayern Munich ... Greece wasn't expected to win 2004 Euros but they did, and they did it playing defensively .. It aint pretty but its tactical.

@beefy_clyro - I prefer nice and entertaining, thank you... and if it was off-site it was by the smallest margin, mate... It was a goal! In any other civilized sport it would have counted - thanks to video referees and modern technology... but guess what... the old farts at fifa and uefa hate change more than anything... To me it's sad to see the beautiful game played like this... They were not even trying to attack or even hold the ball in their own ranks for more than 2 minutes... It was the game of an overrated and overpaid and cowardly bunch of 'stars'.

Someone who saw Zlatans amazing goal against France?
  • beefy_clyrobeefy_clyro Member Posts: 5,394
@SpriteAttack Fair do's, like i said, wasn't entertaining but do you think England cares? They come to do a job on Ukraines patch and they did!
The are overpaid and overhyped, England fans know this and this is why we don't care how we play as long as we get results!

"and if it was off-site it was by the smallest margin, mate... It was a goal! In any other civilized sport it would have counted" - Not at all mate! It was a yard offside! Shouldn't matter though if its a yard or a millimetre, if you're offside, you're offside. Its the same as when tech is implemented, if the ball crosses the line, it wont matter by how far! Even with a goal against us we would of still qualified so wouldn't of been too disappointed!

"fifa and uefa hate change more than anything" - Well Blatter hates England and if he feels we've got away with something he'll be itching to get tech implemented.

Equally though, we lost out to Germany when Lampards shot was clearly over the line, never counted and we went on to get whooped when the goal would have drastically changed the game! They say decisions like this even out in football and maybe they just did

I've been able to watch about half of the matches so far. I'm going for England & Portugal, but I think it's going to be Germany vs Italy in the final, with Germany winning it all. I'm a fan of Real Madrid & Manchester United so it's neat watching the players play for their country and face each other. So far its been an exciting tournament.

Sidenote: I'm actually working on a football/soccer themed game. Should be out in July.

    Cheers

It was a poor game but I think England played their game plan the best and won (even if the other goal had counted England would have topped the group so from England's perspective it doesn't matter). I also believe playing this way might give them a chance to beat Italy (it seems the idea is to built a disciplined defense for about 60+ minutes and then when the opponents are tired and frustrated bring on Walcott and Ox to run at them and go for broke) ... with the talent available I think that's not a bad plan. Still likely to get cleaned by the Germans or Spain but who cares we're in the playoffs .... yah!

Must say that most teams didn't bother to show up... most games are not that fun to watch :(

Will miss at least some of the game tonight cause we play darts on Thursday night but i hope the Czech's beat Portugal :) who's everyone else backing?

    Darren.

I'm going for the Czech's ... one of my favorite players is Rosicky and I really dislike Nani so this ones easy to pick for me. Hope for an entertaining game either way ... from now on in it's 'do or die' so I hope everyone takes the brake off and goes for it.
  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
    Anyone see it?

    Was it a good game?

Got plans to watch the other 3 games (especially the one on Sunday)

    Come On England!!!

    Darren.
  • MarkOnTheIronMarkOnTheIron Member Posts: 1,447
It wasn't really spectacular. It was mainly Portugal blindly shooting at Czech's goal. It could have ended with a much higher score for Portugal.

  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
Got a sneaky feeling Greece will give the Germans a hard time tonight but Chris reckons 3-1 Germany....i say 2-1 Germany.

Looking forward to watching it as we face the winners if we get past Italy...i did say "if" :)

2-1 is a save bet. 3-1 is great.
But I say 3-0 for Deutschland.
  • WTDeveloperWTDeveloper Member Posts: 352
    I say 2:1 Germany,too.
It will be hard for Germany, but they are always better in the KO.-round and they had 9 points so nothing can go wrong :D
    GO GERMANY!!!

Yeah, I bet Germany and Portugal are headed to the finals. If Germany steps up its game (as it has done in the past) and Portugal gets its game together, it will be a fierce competition.

    Looking forward to it all!

Go Portugal! We keep going on, altough no one bet for us at the beginning.
  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
Was a good game but dominated by Germany and they should of been 4-0 up in the 1st half.

Thought at one time when it was 1-1 the Greeks might just do it:P

I think tonights game Spain v France will be similar to last nights with Spain having most of the ball and creating a gazillion chances.

I predict Spain to win 5-1 what do you guys reckon?

    Darren.
  • MarkOnTheIronMarkOnTheIron Member Posts: 1,447
France should be a little better than Greece, also they have many new fast players that can keep the ball like the Spain.

Spain will win, but not as easy as most think and if Ribery and Benzema remember what kind of player they are they can do some damage :)

  • EatingMyHatEatingMyHat Member Posts: 1,246
I think Spain will win, but 5-1... Wouldn't mind :) but not sure about that. I would say it is more of a 1:0 or 2:1 type of game with lots of shots at goal.

  • MarkOnTheIronMarkOnTheIron Member Posts: 1,447
That was a disappointing match. Spain won 2-0 by playing an half-assed match. They played like they were only training. And that was due to France no play attitude, they have some really good top players but they don't play as a team.

Let's hope that Portugal will make them sweat a little more :)

  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
France played better 2nd half but fell a little short, Spain were at a canter most of the game and didn't really get into 2nd gear.

I bet Portugal against Spain will be the best game in the Tournament, including the final. I hope Portugal wins!
  • SpriteAttackSpriteAttack Member Posts: 524
So far theGermany Greece game would be my favorite... ;) let's hope the Englush beat Italy tonight... German sides love playing the English at major tournaments... even with players that 'would never make it into an English squad' ;)
