Hey there, if you are interested in marketing your games for $0 this might be of interest.
konsoll.org - Emmy Jonassen: To become a successful indie game developer, you must first become a successful indie game marketer. Trouble is, for many indies, marketing doesn't come naturally or fit the indie budget.
Hey I have a question for anyone that natively speaks a language other than english. Just curious, do you ever look up games using english words. For example, would you go about finding a zombie game by typing in "zombie" versus how it is pronounced in your native language? It may seem like a dumb question, but you never know since the markets generally have their most popular games in english initially. Just thinking they may look things up using the little english they may know.

I was at a meetup where a guy talked about great sales benefits if you offer multiple languages - he used the site fiver to get them done I think. It's definitely worth it if you can do it.
I know @lebiscuit has done that on his slick Red Riding Hood game.
@FallacyStudios, few developers localise their descriptions and keywords. This is a great opportunity for those that do, to attain high rankings in those countries, which in return increases the chance of Apple taking note.
Always remember, achieving a high rank, even in a small country, has an exponetial effect both on downloads and visibility. It is a small world.
@matarua and @Hopscotch Yea I agree with both of you. I have localization for those areas, but I'm trying to figure out if I should have a few english words thrown into the mix. That is why I was wondering if anyone knew if it was common to try english words on foreign language app stores.
I have been using Sensor Tower for about 3 months now and it is pretty useful, in my rookie opinion. I do not use the paid version though ... Usually I use it to research and get keywords in multiple languages for a game and then I remove that game and use it for another game. You can scan about 6 keywords at a time using the free version.
The game I used it on was Shadow Glitch as it was getting about 1 download a day after being out for 2 months and then after a keyword update and adding keywords for other countries, I did see a small boost of downloads again, about 30-35 a day. So because I had some luck, I'm bias and think the site is awesome.
PART II
I have another game coming out soon and I plan to use:
Sensor Tower (I'll do my own English keywords but I'll use Sensor Tower for Chinese, Japanese, Russian, German, Italian and two other random languages.
Appreview.me,
This awesome retweet group that is pretty legit, when the day isn't spammed by abusers with no followers of their own (www.innovatty.com/twitter/IDRTG/)
Fiverr.com (I'll find a few gigs to get some non extreme SEO done to direct mobile users to my site www.appdore.com, where I am using the Apple meta-tag to show my latest game when iOS users visit the site...)
Anything else I can get done with this big $100 budget.
PART I+II (TL;DR)
I like Sensor Tower, I use it for multiple languages because I have the extra time to research with it and spread the word. I have useful sites to use in combination of Sensor Tower. My budget sucks.

I have been including a few english keywords with the other languages, only the countries that I know have strong English speakers, such as Japan and France.

Interesting question - sorry if I did not quite reply with the right answer! English is the common language for a lot of people throughout the world so some I would have to say that some simple effective keywords could be beneficial for you.
As @matarua says. For the english keywords stick with the current trending words and genre, for the localized words be creative, be specific and descriptive of the action, characters or even setting.
@iamcartez Hey man thanks for the input. Nice to get some feedback from someone who has tried it. Yea I really like the Keyword search too. That is why I posted this thing, I just thought that search function was super useful and awesome. Also, thanks for the extra suggestions and other beneficial places. I'm going to have to check them out.
@TouchiMedia Haven't submitted yet because I'm still waiting for a stable version to release with. Getting rather tired of this 6 month wait for a stable build.
I recently updated one of my games a week ago
with new keywords and have had some luck, its not US rank though so there is little income. However the keywords were found from checking keywords on the site plus random keywords I've been trying out such as "game,center,red,flop,etc."... And mixing english keywords with other languages...
**So really just experiment with keywords after each update if your downloads suck.
**
@iamcartez Nice, good to see some good feedback from it. I will have some results on it when I submit. If they get out the stable build out I'll have results on 2-5 apps after apple review.
So just a few results that I now have. I updated one of my less popular non GS apps. Did the keyword modifications and a few other ASOs.
Paid version increase compared from 4 day span a week prior to update:
(Revenue increase)
-79% increase in iPad version
-144800% increase in iPhone version (the increase % is so big because it went from 0 sales the week before)
Free version increase compared from 4 day span a week prior to update:
(Units downloaded increase)
-167% increase in iPad version
-93% increase in iPhone version
Keep in mind it is also possible some of these increases are also due to the update itself so they aren't perfect stats. I'll keep an eye on them to see if it holds true long term.
As soon as the stable version is released I'll be submitting like 5 games/updates all within a 2 week span. I'll optimize each and see if these increases hold true for these ones as well. I'll post more when I have it.

Or if you can't supply proof, can we see what the game in question is, for the iPhone and iPad? Cheers. (Interested to know what engine you used, as well, as I see you wrote it wasn't GSC).
@gyroscope Sorry man I don't really want to post any of my financial information and sales stats on here. Up to you if you want to trust what I said or not. I just wrote the %'s given from the Sales and Trends from the week before and after the update.
Also, as I pointed out. I can't be sure those increases weren't simply due to the update, or because of the keywords. Possibly a combination of both. Currently my figures are still sitting higher than they were, but have slipped some since the update.
The 144800% increase, I'm not sure how it could be accurate though because it went from 0 sales the week before. So even 1 sale would make it jump drastically % wise.
As for the others, the iPad ones are high because generally my iPad sales and downloads aren't super high to begin with. It would be a shocker if they were in the thousands per day and increased by 100%+, but generally they are under 100.
Honestly I don't remember which app I posted those results for. It was 2 months ago. Could have been a few different apps or just one.

I've been using sensor tower all year. Awesome awesome resource though I only have the basic membership. I've been able to find out a lot about other apps amongst a lot of other data.
One huge benefit is the keywords anayltics. For each keyword attached to my title or search, I can see the traffic rating, how many other apps use that keyword, how competitive the keyword is, and how I rank in regards to where my app shows up when someone types in that keyword. From that data I can then keep the keywords or update them in hopes of climbing higher in the charts. I can also look up other keywords and find the same data other than how it applies to my app since those keywords are not yet attached.
I'll tell you one really good tip I learned from my good friend @jdgould is to have as many keywords in your title as are allowed. I have been rejected by Apple at times but recently my title "Neverland Celebrity Dentist Makeover Game – Free Little Fun Clinic Doctor Game for Kids, Boys, and Girls" was accepted and Apple had no issues with my title. Over at Nook, I have used titles I know Apple would never accept and Nook accepted them no problem. So you just have to try things and tweak your approach. I also learn a lot from downloading top apps and analyzing their marketing techniques as well as their monetization strategies. If you want to learn about marketing, I recommend talking to Jeff aka @jdgould because I've learned priceless information from the man. Really good guy. The only reason I'm even using GS is because he told me about it as well as sensor tower and most everything else I know lol.

Haha - Been there, same 'Guy' same convo!

Pffttt.
@matarua Great link, thank you!
Off the back of that video, this article about one of the games mentioned is great too.
