Hi all - I've chosen a venue for the GameSalad Users Summer Meetup:
Smithy's Wine Bar & Restaurant
Ahhhhhh !!!!! I used to live on Leeke Street (around 2010-11), Smithy's Wine Bar was literally 10-15 metres (perhaps even less) from my flat (luckily I was on the 2nd floor) . . . . I only went in there a few times, but it's a pretty dreary place, super dark, sticky floors, and not untypical for certain pubs (pubs whose main trade is local businesses / offices) it's absolutely dead at the weekends, that's not to say people might not want somewhere quiet to discuss the best way to successfully delete images from a project but if you are after somewhere a little more lively that's definitely not the place for you !! As a general rule I'd say that every pub south of Euston road (at least within walking distance from Kings X) is pretty dreary, they are all work / commuter pubs - no atmosphere, although there are a couple of exceptions . . . .
I'm not even sure, for a developer meetup where conversations are key, a pub on a Saturday evening would be the best choice at all... Lol just my humble opinion

Pubs anywhere in central(ish) London, on a Saturday evening, are pretty quiet . . . . who said anything about conversations, from what I understand gyroscope is bringing his crack pipe.

Nah, crack wasn't invented when I was a hippy - it'll be my electronic cig... bring your's tho', sure people won't mind.
So please suggest a great alternative for the meet up then - a non-soggy carpeted pub - preferably with seating & standing outside too - my eyes are weary Googling so many - and you were the person suggesting the St.Pancras area in the first place...
If not, I'm thinking of one of my original ideas before that, the Wetherspoons pub in Charing Cross Road. No soggy carpets (though a few scattered french fries, I guess), real ale, fairly decent food, large floor area, dancing on the tables .... (not 100% certain about that last one...)
In fact, no worry, time's slip slidin' away .... I've decided to go with this: (see next post)...
This is quite a big pub - perhaps we'll need name badges..... (you think I'm joking? )
There'll be plenty of interesting conversation, I'm certain - hope to see you all there ... (when i say "all" I mean those that can make it, of course!)

There is a pub on the new plazza right outside the new St Martins College of art building, it's 30 seconds walk from Kings Cross / St Pancras.
Personally ill be there for the night (as im traveling from the midlands to meet up) so stopping over in a hotel. So you will have at least 1 drinking partner...

Hi @zypp1 for the record, that was @gingagaming who wrote that you'll have at least 1 drinking partner - in fact, you'll have at least 2 as I'll be there - and as far as I know at least another 3 people as well....
So is it clear or still unclear if you are joining us?
Hard to say right now, summer holidays + 6 year old son = Ahhhhhh!!! Water pistols !!! Ice cream !!! Football kicked directly at head !!!! 8 hour sessions of hide and seek !!! Sunstroke !!!! Fatal injuries !!! And so on . . . . I may well be alive and available, or if not say a prayer for me.
@socks I too have the luxury of a 6 year old Daughter who will be entertained by her paddling pool outside my office these summer hols. At least I can get her to make me a sandwich so I don't need to leave my office for 6 weeks.... Except when the wife comes home & I have to pretend I've entertained her at work all day!

Yep, the paddling pool is a good move, unfortunately I've not got a garden, so it's the bath for him, a nice cold bath, I'll chuck a bit of mud and grass in there to give it that authentic summer holiday paddling pool vibe.

Hey guys, I feel disappointed and slightly sad:
after all this arrangement, I won't be able to make it .... well, probably an hour+half at the most if I got there at 5.50pm, but would then need to make a hasty exit to travel home for a previous "engagement" I'd forgotten about... so as I say, I need to give it a miss..
Sincere apologies to all involved; , I hope no one has been "put out" by my decision here, and at least the 3 or 4 of you who said you'd be going still go (and have a great time...).
Right then guys well this seems to be disappointing. Its seems that is just myself and @3DMA Please advise me if there is anyone else coming. I have train tickets and hotel booked and both are non refundable. Nearly £150 down the toilet at this rate.
Well I'm "gob smacked" to say the least. I'll keep this professional and just say I'm disappointed I made the commitment based on so many yes's.
I guess that when the main celeb guests @gyroscope@StormyStudio and @DeepBlueApps pulled out (I know not all of you committed to coming but you 4 showed good interest of attending) it all went down hill. To be fair it was you guys I had interest in meeting too.
No hard feeling to anyone so don't read this post the wrong way. Clearly I'm just annoyed I shelled out just under £150 to make this trip.
