  • design219design219 Member Posts: 2,273
Oh, not scaleable to iPad? Hmmmm.
  • AppChogieAppChogie Member Posts: 503
It would have been impressive for iPad scaling but alas only for iPhone 4 resolution.

    What is this?

The term "resolution independent" usually refers to vector art... artwork that doesn't rely on pixels, but vectors to draw shapes and artwork. It can be much smaller and usually doesn't carry the file size of bitmapped artwork. It's basically the difference between Illustrator and Photoshop.

I got excited for a minute, but after reading the details, a little less so. But this is still an improvement!

Well the biggest complain was pro didn't have enough features.

    Problem solved.

In the grand scheme of things pro is not that much for what you are doing.

It's an investment never other buisiness venture you can make is way bigger than becoming an app developer

    Thats a fair statement!

this is retarded. iads for pros only? this is the worst dissapointment ever.
  • giacomopoppigiacomopoppi Member, PRO Posts: 914
well said xSlamGx. GIVE US THE F**king IADS!

Completely wrong attitude xSlamGx.... and thats why iAds has been designated Pro.. so its kept out of the reach of idiots that are going to abuse it in order to try make a quick buck.

If its a Pro only feature, then its being used by developers who, for the most part are trying to use the software as part of ligitimate, honest businesses, and who are probably going to be attaching iAds to higher quality apps.

...and failing that.... even if they end up on crap apps...at least the GameSalad log wont be attached, with it being on pro only apps.... so they dont run the risk of damaging their own reputation.

So yup...a good move on Gendai's behalf from what I can see. Reward their Pro users with better features, and restrict it from use from those that might abuse it.....

Im rather disappointed on the engine/editor update & improvement side of things though.... but getting used to it.

Still, now iAds is looking like its gonna be out of the way, maybe we'll see more movement on editor improvents.... heres hoping!

I think even gendai doesnt want their name on 7,522 sound boards rushed out in one day for iAds lol

    @chunkypixels a good point mate :-)

From the beginning the pro membership has been way under valued. 2000 for URL forwarding and custom logos was too little. I was lucky enough to get upgraded to pro when they dropped the price from $500 to $100, but the lack of features had be seriously not renewing as a pro member and dropping down to express, which I expect many others were doing.

GS NEEDED to add more pro only options and I think this is a good step.

And the resolution independence looks pretty cool, if I'm reading it right we can design for retina display and it will automatically downsample for older models.

    this sucks

A couple of quick questions I'd like to hear some opinions on:

So how will this downsampling affect the speed of games for <=3G models? Seems like trying to cater to those phones will result in a very bare bones iPhone 4 showing. I should probably just test it for myself :p

Are apps compatible with the fast app switching? I'm thinking not, or else it would have been a bigger deal?

But looks like a great update to me, good job guys. Here's to hoping it doesn't cause massive bugs in our existing projects. Cheers!

I appologize for the mean comments i wrote before, i'm just really depressed.
Game development for the 99% of us... well take out 98% of the population who cant afford 1999$.
how do u expect a tennager to pay those amounts? at least reduce the price! please!

Since this is a behavior, I wonder if there is a way to determine if an ad is actually being served?

Has anyone played with apps with iAds in them, do the devs remove the iAd container when empty? Do they check every 3 mins to see if an ad has been served?
  • JamesZeppelinJamesZeppelin Member Posts: 1,927
Drag and drop from one project to another.....

    THIS IS HUGE TOO!!!

Also its nice to see a heads up.
It gives me a feeling this update wasn't so rushed.

There has already been support for this. You can drag an actor from one project to the next, and it transfers! There are some issues if the actor has global variables involved, however.

Int he official documentation there is sample code to hide the add if it is not served.
I would assume GS has included this. It would make the most sense... i think

@xSlamGx, Didn't you get rich off of "The Original Duck Hunt"?

Here is a app I made a year ago sells really well in America that I added iAds to. I have updated all my Xcode apps the same way.

then the feed goes live once test ads change in iTunes connect, iAds section for each app.
  • JamesZeppelinJamesZeppelin Member Posts: 1,927
Well i for one can understand the frustration, and I'm sure there would have been some good apps in the free ranks...

However this decision likely just saved the free section of from about 2,000 total junk apps.
And i'm not talking about the majority of people that post here but, the number of GS subscribers is in the thousands and I am sure just about everyone would make a couple quick free iAds apps.

If anything they did the pro members a huge service
I am not rich but i am a pro member. I paid for my membership 100% with sales from my apps.
I work hard for my money and everyone else here has the same opportunity.

I know saying this probably upsets some people but its true. You have a resource tons of people only dream of. Just 10 years ago no one would have anything like this even for 2k

You would have spend close to 100k on a startup that would likely fail if you wanted to have a chance to be your own boss and work from home.
