Guess all my iAds stuff will have to be Appcelerator or the old XCode/SDK way.
(still cannot get to the link in the original post of this thread...is this a put-on?)
I may make a bit more with iAds but not worth the $2K/year unless I get a bit lucky with a hit. If you get a hit it is sort of a compound effect: if the free demo is a hit then the non-free will likely be a hit so the rich get richer. :-)
GS is not too useful for non-game apps and lacks alot of the typical game features as is.
I think the iAds stuff should be free to maybe help members actually make enough to get the Pro version that will have some of the other niceties we all crave (like game center, URL hi-jinks, no splash screen, etc.). Or lower the yearly $2K fee and raise it as more and more features are added.
I can see a fear of hastily put together free apps with the GameSalad logo but that is akin to the fear of releasing a GameSalad app for most of the GS devs...just saying.
yep, i was about to take the anger out on my brother, but my hopes have raised. GS, you have the opportunity to save my brother from having a black eye!!! XD
The link WAS working. Gendai took it down. I checked Google cache, but it wasn't up long enough to get scraped...
Hopefully they are changing their mind. If iAds were made an express option, there might be a few more express users with the funds to upgrade to PRO for its other merits...
Guys, this was just a "controlled leak"! Gendai wanted to increase the general user appreciation of iAds by first forcing Express members to feel what it would be like IF it were released for PRO only!
Yep they were probably just waiting around to see if anyone had made a copy or something. Their concept of good communication and support just gets more and more bizarre....
its like speaking to god... the 99% of times he doesnt answer your prayers. GS, almighty ones, speak to us! or do we have to wait until the start of the new millenium?
Give it a day or two. I have no idea why an email was sent to AppChogie, but nobody else seems to have received it here. So they clearly aren't ready to make the announcement, yet.
About your post in gamesalad i found this on the support pages i guess there working on it now so its not posted for everyone yet, But they added iads. here is the link....
Then I email back asking if he posted it on the forum and I got this reply.
no i didnt want to start anything but feel free.
So in the interest of open information in the community I started the post. Perhaps I shouldn't of.
Yeah it would be funny if he was lying about the pro only iads deal (:
I mean there's no update yet so we can't really be sure what we are getting, and no one but appchogie got an email lol That's kind of strange???
However if it is only for pro; then next time GS can you please tell us on the "Big picture" if it'll be for pros only because I've been waiting 3 weeks for iads and now that I'm hearing it's only for pro members... Kind of makes me mad since I waited for it so long.
Nevertheless I'm thankful for GS since I don't know how to code ha
synthesis said: In my opinion, the real story here is that when GameCenter and inApp purchasing in integrated...those too will be Pro Features as well.
I would agree. But leave iAds open to all paying members.
I restate my point that inAp purchasing will be the most powerful tool for those who wish to make money in Apps. inApp purchasing allows a dev to market their captive audience with more of their own content. This is huge when the sole catalyst for making money in the app store is proper exposure. If an when you DO have a successful title (via free or pay), then you can harvest that amazing exposure into more $$$.
Screw iAds...its a short lived profit model. Once the market becomes immune to them...they will ignore them or hate you for including them. It will become a thorn in the users side...NO ONE LIKES ADVERTISEMENTS in games...and it can cause a backlash at you in using it. In utilities or social apps...it makes more sense...but not in games.
In-App purchasing is the single greatest opportunity to game devs. Game Center is a nice enhancement...but won't generate additional revenue...and iAds will shell out very limited revenue. But in-App purchasing...that is where the most potential for revenue growth is.
Come on people...get your priorities straight.
And is Gendai doesn't get their head on straight about pricing models...they will die sooner than later. The competition is coming and so far...they haven't shown any reasons for me to stay loyal when a better "deal" comes along.
I don't know if any of you are aware...but it sounds like Corona is close to having a drag and drop GUI...but this isn't confirmed...but their literature leads me to believe it is coming.
And if I can get a GUI interface at Corona's pricing and with their feature library, then what do I need GS for? Wake up Gendai. $2K per year is insane...its WAY out of line with the marketplace and it will kill you...QUICKLY once you have competition...and it is coming!!!
Bloody hell people, GS is 'game creation' software!!! It's free to use and all of us have have enjoyed creating GAMES.
those that have been fortunate have upgraded and by the sounds of it, it could do with some additional features to differentiate it.
But come on, it's flippin adverts!
If you want to make games stay with GS, if you want a crappy app which disapoints the user and is plastered with adverts learn Xcode as it's all about the cash.
Gendai, thanks for the wicked software and feel free to dump the 'adverts' and concentrate on the game building engine. E.g where you have the home and scene buttons, please add an actor drop down so I can jump from one actor to another in one click. It will save a load of time.

Move along, nothing to see here...

If GS decide to give us iAds I will have a joygasm.
At the risk of sounding desperate, pitiful and, well, 12, all in one breath;
PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE?
It would help a lot.
