I have to say that I'm hugely disappointed that iAds will be Pro only. It's becoming hard enough as it is to make any money from selling games to see another form of possible revenue removed/disallowed for Express users.
I am very angry. With Xcode we can distribute out apps with iads, in app purchases, and our own splash screens for $100 and here we have to pay $2000! I'm really not trying to be rude, but this price should really go down. I'm starting to think about learning how to code now, because GS just let me down big time
There is value in iAds. I see that. Obviously everyone whining about it being Pro-only sees that.
The problem is that Gendai has way overvalued the features included with the pro membership. Again, they are valuable, but not worth $2000. In my opinion, setting the price at $2000 is the same as Gendai saying they don't want my money.
As long as they don't want it, I see no problem with express members, or even non-GS users, paying pro's for app development and/or access to Pro features "À la carte": http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=8311
Until Gendai understands this you will continue to see my modest attempt at "boycotting" the pro membership.
Sad. I've been asking GS to extend giving Pro at the $499 mark before it skyrocketed to $1999.
Because it's been in beta for so long and no major features on the horizon, I couldn't justify the additional cost from the Express.
Now that iAd support is only in the Pro version, without the help from iAds, Express users will only be able to rely on their own iTunes sales. Does anyone else think it's a bit of a Catch-22? Hell, I would have cut GS in my iAd sales if Apple would allow such a thing, until I gained enough so I could afford Pro.
Looks like I'm heading back towards Torque and likely grab Corona as a side order.
I've got to say that the iAds stuff is HUGELY disappointing.
I'll only be upgrading to Pro when I have the money; I haven't got $2k right now - but if I did I'd do it for the external linking alone - the load screen doesn't phase me so much.
I know iAds may not be hugely successful for many of us, but I would have really liked to give it a shot.
This actually makes me feel incredibly depressed >.<'

I cannot justify $2k EVERY year, If pro was $499 and a one off payment you got my money.
@Rob2, thanks mate I have made it hidden when no ad shows however for this example I made it visible so show what it looks like.
Now I agree with both sides of the fence but Gendai needs to remember its mission statement of bringing game development to everyone. Its good that people are making enough money from their games to pay for the pro, but this is a community and we are strongest when together. Otherwise what will happen is there will become a divide between pro and express members as is already starting.
Pro members just have some compassion to the people of express as most are trying there best, myself included and my games are not that bad I pump a lot of money into graphics, advertising etc. so I am committed to the cause and I am not trying to make a living out of it I already get £57,000 a year I love my hobby and there are many other passionate people on express.

What? The OpenGL is fantastic have you seen the games gameloft and EA push out?
Good point, I guess really meant to do anything than 100% from scratch My bad... I am descent with scripting behaviors and what not But, I would be terrified to just dive in with xcode and nothing else.
Maybe someday
Either way i do see both sides of this argument that GS should include iAds for everyone but the price is different. It is a unique service (for now)

Yes, i know you have to have coding knowledge and it would take MUCH longer, but it would definitely be worth the wait. You could create something much more complex with coding. Most of the games that you see in the top 100 are made with coding. So even though GS is much easier, coding could be a much more fun experience and XCode is definitely a more powerful tool than GS.
If you make a good game that people want to play, you can easily make the 2k required. I'm no where near what tshirtbooth has made, but I've made enough to buy pro for a few years. With a good buildup and marketing, a great description and a good game, you should be able to make back your investment.
Chunkypixels said: Completely wrong attitude xSlamGx.... and thats why iAds has been designated Pro.. so its kept out of the reach of idiots that are going to abuse it in order to try make a quick buck.
If its a Pro only feature, then its being used by developers who, for the most part are trying to use the software as part of ligitimate, honest businesses, and who are probably going to be attaching iAds to higher quality apps.
...and failing that.... even if they end up on crap apps...at least the GameSalad log wont be attached, with it being on pro only apps.... so they dont run the risk of damaging their own reputation.
So yup...a good move on Gendai's behalf from what I can see. Reward their Pro users with better features, and restrict it from use from those that might abuse it.....
Im rather disappointed on the engine/editor update & improvement side of things though.... but getting used to it.
Still, now iAds is looking like its gonna be out of the way, maybe we'll see more movement on editor improvents.... heres hoping!
I find you funny to think just because somebody doesn't pay for the pro version that they just want to put out crap apps. Reality is that I'm sure most of us don't fork out the money due to lack of money and for those of us making money from apps don't get enough return on time and investment to justify. Glad you "PRO" members got something good! But thanks GS for giving us others the shaft! And thanks Chunky for basically saying non pro members apps suck.
Based on my observation of this community, I have seen some great games and some extremely crappy games produced with GS. Since no one has their membership level tattooed to their forehead, we CAN'T definitively say that the best games are made by Pro members.
What we can say is this, great games are made by great devs. GameSalad is a tool, not a muse.
Having said all that, I'll get to my point. Mulcahy is right, a great game can make $2000+/- per year. However, I will not work my ass off to bank $2000 just so I can write check (figurative) to the tool makers.
Cant believe iAds is pro only, i'd understand if they dropped the pro price but $1999 per year is mad. A lot of people will struggle to make that in the year! Wow im gutted

!@#$%, who wants to spend money
but the fact others do it for cheaper is not a valid argument
or that xcode does it for $99 is even less
if you can script the game yourself, go for it. Even torque is 750 and unity pro to remove the splash currently requires to purchases nearing 2k
And a simple Doodle jump style game could take hundreds of hours
i was not given a pro liscense like some, i paid for it and i really researched and weighed things out. It is comparable or i wouldnt have done it.
And im not some crazy GS fanboy, ive just really done a lot of research and am also a unity user.
Also, xcode still needs a game engine for anything beyond a basic bubble pop game
