So I decided to reveal the title and the concept this weekend.
Here it is:
The game is planned to be 101 stages of play over 8 different worlds (levels) that explores the post nuclear apocalyptic city underbelly. Toxic slime is everywhere and the roaches are the only life remaining. They are super intelligent and very cunning and looking to take over the life-less and grungy world at large.
You have 5 weapons at your disposal...bombs, gas, laser mines, flame throwers and Tesla pods. You must defend your territory at all costs. As the game progresses...you earn achievements with successful game play which in turn...unlocks better weapon capabilities.
Here is a screenshot from the gameplay.
Next month...I hope to have enough developed to demo a Beta version of the game on the GS website (filesize permitting) and also to release a gameplay video. Stay Tuned.
Thanks for checking in!

Here is one more screenshot from tonight's progress...I just built the BOMB visual FX using additive filtering.
The screen shot above shows the GAS visual FX using the new screen filter.
Ya gotta love those filters...especially the additives!!!
Woo-hoo!!! Thanks GS!!!

Look at "Cockroach Corral" (November, 2009)
Look at "A-a-a! Rage Against the cockroach" (March, 2010)
Look at "iRoach 2" (July, 2010)
or any of the hundreds and hundreds of others...
Remember:
to be successful, you can be a) first, b) best or c) cheapest.
Synthesis is obviously going for b) best.
@cptong...
Yes, I created the art. We are hoping that it is strong enough to sustain solid sales.
@predadors...
Yes the theme is "smashing" cockroaches. We are actually intentionally avoiding terms like war, or killing or other aggressive words...as we want the app to be somewhat kid friendly. Its not the first bug killing app out there...we know that...but hopefully it will be one of the better. If you do a bug killing app...that's okay...just don't copy ours
@QS
If we find anyone using our backgrounds...first we will be flattered and second we will report it to Apple as a copyright infringement.
@choosenone...
We too are hoping it runs on the older devices. So far so good. I think BDX had more difficulty because the large background images were moving around with the racer. Since the "heavy" art in this one is stationary and not loaded into the rendering engine...it doesn't seem to be as much of a problem. We are keeping our fingers crossed that GS holds up to its end of the bargain. I am weary/concerned however that the new resolution independence png crusher causes some issues though...keeping our fingers crossed it doesn't.
(for those of you who don't know...BDX is our first game...Bumper Derby XTreme...which was shelved at 80% complete because it kept crashing out of RAM...no matter how much we did to optimize...and cutting anymore out would have reduced the game to virtually nothing).
Here is a link to the web play Beta if you care to check it out:

@intel...
I have downloaded 3 of those you list. They are fairly basic games but their sales seem somewhat respectable. I think iRoach was the biggest seller and probably the strongest graphically. However - all of those are looping tappers without much variation in them. I think Roach Madness is the strongest game concept...but still VERY repetitive. We are going more along the vein of PvsZ...with a game that builds as you play. We are hoping that this extended gameplay will set us apart.
We know we aren't the first. Its pretty hard to be that anymore. We are hoping we are the best and we will be priced at $1...so aside from free apps...we will be among the cheapest.
Now back to game dev...planning to build the laser mines today!
Good enough
Good luck with your game.
You might try a couple of those that IntelD lists above...they might give you some ideas. I recommend Roach Madness...it seems to have some unique things going on the others don't have.
I've honestly been wondering what was taking so long for you to get a GS game to market, but it's clear you have been working on a very big project, and I'm sure it will be well worth it.
Very nice job brother, and best success!

HOLY NOSE JOB!: Nesen Probe: Is this the single most unappealing game in the history of GameSalad? I can't seem to give it away! Anywhere. But if anyone want's to try it out, codes are still available! http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=8097
I do hope that it sells well! After all...isn't that what we are all doing this for?
@ Design...
Yes...its taking a long time to get a game out. Having started GS in Feb...and with Bumper Derby getting shelved...and then our second project (a puzzler) going slowly since I had to get some "real work" done (that pays the bills)...I didn't get a chance to get back into GS until Late June. So I've been pounding at Toxic Roach for about a month now and probably have about 2 left to go (we shelved the puzzler to start TR).
But the game development is going quick now. The initial front end UI and menus took FOREVER to get right (but now I have a template .
Hopefully we will get to market by mid-Sept. I am just praying that GS holds up as the game nears the finish line...otherwise I may be throwing computers against the wall.
BTW...No iPad necessary. The HD just means it has high res graphics for the 4G. So far it is working well on an iPod 2G.
I hope you can appreciate the fact that it is a work in progress and only about 30% complete...but I think there is enough there for you to get a sense of what it will be...eventually.
There is only 1 level partially built and not everything works. Plus I had to put low res graphics in and publish in the GS web format since it doesn't support portrait format and has a 10MB limit (which needs to change if we are going to 4G support now...sheesh).
I think everything works for the most part but I am sure there are a few bugs or holes in it. I guess I am looking for any feedback you all might have on how the game "feels" right now. And if you think the game play is on the right track or not.
Understand also that its a little more difficult to keep up with the roaches with a mouse. Tapping on a device is much easier.
Anyway...Hope you get a little enjoyment out of it.
Thanks

GAME SALAD APPARENTLY DOESN'T HAVE THE BALLS TO PULL ANYTHING LIKE THIS OFF. ITS TAPTARDS OR NOTHING APPARENTLY AS ITS PHYSICS ENGINE'S MEMORY MANAGEMENT IS NON-EXISTENT.
I HOPE I AM WRONG...BUT LOOKING FOR PROOF OTHERWISE.

Seriously, this place gets filled with ass-kissers sometimes and I think it's really more appropriate for people to give honest opinions than say stuff like "wow, you're amazing, I wish I was you". That's not productive at all.
My opinion about this roach game from what I've played... it's just not compelling enough to play. Synth even stated himself that it's "light on gameplay" ?!?!?! WTF?!?!?! I literally sat there, repetitively tapping the bugs to squish them... it got boring very quickly. Kind of felt like working in a factory... and after a big rant about why his games are so good... I couldn't bite my tongue any longer.
I have been a gamer for a very long time and for some reason a lot of people here fail to realise that it's the PLAYABILITY that makes a game... a pretty picture is just that... NOT a game.
You can blow smoke up Synthesis's arse all day long for all I care but that's not going to help him make better games.
And to blame your tools... well.... seriously, I have played QS's new game. It does a hell of a lot more than Synth's game graphically, sonically and the playability is absolutely perfect. And guess what? GameSalad made it.
Rant over... I need some sleep...
1. He said its not done.
2. QS's game is only 3GS and up
3. Synthesis is the king of optimization, and knows about this alot more than we do.
4. He's made lots of games but he wants his games perfect and yes this can directly be blamed on GS because the engine uses up so much Godamn RAM...
5. Since He has yet to release a game, because its not perfect I'd say that makes him a better dev than both of us, but I guess thats arguable...
6. Your first comment was rude as hell... Kinda like when you called me a game thief the other day..
7. Mine was rude also and I'll remove it because of that...
8. Technically QS made the game not GS (haha jk I'll let that one slide)
Yes, GS has its flaws and you have to be clever with it... that's part of the fun And as for stating that Synth is a better dev than me? I don't doubt it... I've only recently picked up GS but I'm finding it to be a whole heap of fun so far... I'm still learning and I never claimed to be any kind of GS guru. FAR FROM IT.
After releasing my game it has become apparent that there were loads of things I could have done to optimise that I didn't even know about. I'm still happy with the finished product but the next one will be better because I learnt from it. And I still got something that is very playable into the app store (well, into "waiting for review" - lol).
And as for calling you a game thief... you said "I don't buy games, sorry, neither do most of the gaming community"... easy to see why I thought you might have been referring to piracy... I DID apologise
I stick to what I said though. Games need to be fun. That's the FUNdamental keystone of the videogame... playability... without it, there is no game... just some pretty pixels. Anyone remember Shadow of the Beast? Sadly, it's a lesson no one seems to be learning...
And as for being rude... I think it's rude to make blanket statements like "GameSalad can't make good games"... Synthesis has said this often... and yet there are many good GS games out there... just because HE can't make good games doesn't mean that GS isn't a bloody good tool. No one's forcing him to use it, either. Although, I think that with that artistic ability, Synthesis CAN and WILL make good games, hell there may be a load of people who love this roach game... I just found it a little on the dull side. I make no apologies for that.
