    What's wrong anyway?

Oh right, well I thought that guy posted it. And that the server probably messed it up or something. I never intended to call you a liar and i'm sorry if you thought I did. And then I was only messing around as I thought you still were. That's all.

I apologize for any misunderstanding that I may have caused.

I see where you got pissed off...

"Funny, why does it say jehd1914. :S" Around there. But by that I thought there must have been a mix up in the server or something.

See what happens when you even discuss jailbreaking?

    Just say "NO"

The argument wasn't about jailbreaking it was a misunderstanding... Me and iDev both believe in Jailbreaking so I don't see what your getting at..

I jailbreak, because I enabled multitasking on my 2nd Gen Touch...

Theres nothing wrong with jailbreaking... jbing is perfectly legal...

Stealing games is wrong and that is illegal..

Ok, sorry, i'm a little pissed because my friends at school, the majority of them have jailbroken devices, and they are all like, "=P we are going to steal you app so you don't make any money lol"

    Its annoying.

    Sorry, Dragokillz

@Dragokillz, dont go hating on something you dont know about.... Because a very large portion of the Jailbreaking community, just uses it for more functionality (like me)... And just because you jailbreak, that doesnt mean you can steal apps, theres another step...

@IntelligentDesigner Not necessarily iOS is a stripped down OSX and you dont see OSX getting infected... Although it is possible there is hardly, if any, iOS viruses...

Dont Flame jailbreakers.. Were not doing anything wrong... Were just using are devices to their full potential...

If you guys like to be shackled in Apples chains.. Be my guest.. BUT I LIKE controlling my devices...

    Cheers

Jailbreaking will make the viri that much more likely.
When you change things OS wise, you open up to exploits.

    Just say "NO"

Nothing wrong with petitioning Apple to incorporate legitimate upgrades to the OS, though.
    Go for it.

there are no virusses for iphones. there is no problem with jailbreaking. Jailbreaking enebles features that aple havnt included. jailbreaking does make the device less secure... but who cares? (as long as you dont use the device for payments).

Seriously, have you ever head of problems with the jailbreak? (security-wise) NO!

Jailbreak does let you download apps for free and that is extremly bad. i bet that everyone on this forum who said they have the jailbreak has the app to install free apps.

BUT i still do not jailbreak because it has NOT BEEN MADE BY APPLE therefore.... it's just not good! :P

    APPLE RULES! XD

P.S. i don't jailbreak because i know i will be tempted to get apps for free.

P.S.2 like my new profile image? :P

    Yeh it's cool :D

I don't actually jailbreak because it ruins your battery.

and makes your device useless for serious development

So if you don't jailbreak... How do you know it ruins your battery?

BTW my battery life has been exactly the same compared to before and with unjailbroken 2nd gen touches..

    How so?

I use mine for it all the time and have never had any problems...

Yes...if you don't change your default SSH password people can gain access to your device.
  • giacomopoppigiacomopoppi Member, PRO Posts: 914
@MDearworth yeh, i heard about that to, but i have never heard anyone try to break into someone's ipod.... i mean... i think hackers have better things to do!!! :P
any way im against jailbreaking so.... good! lets hope hacker find a reason to access ipods/iphones!!

    @chosenonestudios thanks! :)
i wonder what gs think about my lovely logo...?? XD

@Giacomopoppi, I don't know anyone who does *NOT* use their iPhone/iPod for payments. I am referring to buying apps and upgrades using the iDevice... Don't you all do this? I'd have to be pretty stupid to risk jail-breakers harvesting my password... Think about it and then just say "NO" to Jailbreaking.

If your talking about having your account compromised, you do realize you have a password right? If someone stole your iPhone/touch right now wether it was jailbroken or not they wouldn't be able to gather your account info.... So honestly I have no idea what your talking about....

You should change the default password.... But even if you didn't, what could they really access? Your, music, games, photos, what exactly? Also thats another plus for jibing, you can access all your data and take it off on any computer you want, and you can use it as a flash drive.. Pretty Handy :D
  • IntelligentDesignerIntelligentDesigner Member Posts: 517
Of course I "...realize I have a password..." I even mentioned it in the quote you did not read.

Having a password helps if it is not harvested by the Jail breaker. Can people really be so naive?

What do you think happens when your device is jaillbroken? Do you know everything that is compromised? Do you know that it does not transmit your data to someone looking for trusting souls that want to engage in a little unsafe internet? Do you trust people that deal in "warez"?

    Just say "NO" to Jailbreaking.

BTW you can use your iDevice for a flash drive without jailbreaking. There's an app for that.
  • giacomopoppigiacomopoppi Member, PRO Posts: 914
@chosenstudios yep you are right about that but what people can do is

    1) vcn into a device without you knowing it so theycan see the passwords you type

    2) can upload a simple program to transmit data such as passwords typed, emails, usernames... ect.

:D BTW i only know this off what i read in blogs! so... its based on my memory! (not too reliable :P)

Dude, theres security precautions that you can take to block restricted access of your device...

"There's an app for that too"

I swear if you tell me to just say NO to jailbreaking one more time, I'm going to sh*t my pants...

Because I'm not going to stop... So don't treat jailbreakers like some evil pieces of garbage, we just want more functionality out of our devices..

I'm not sure how the app works, but its probably over wifi and thats slower then usb even over wireless N

Chosenonestudios, I am not telling YOU anything. Your conscience is.
If you become incontinent now, it is your choice. Have fun.

I am advising everyone else to just say "NO" to jail breaking, because of the obvious risks.
To mix a metaphor, "When you get involved with hackers, you end up with fleas."

Everyone else, just think about it: jail breaking would modify your well designed secure device to open side doors to every type of remote access of data pushing you don't even know about or cannot detect. It's one of the reasons Apple does not approve of Flash.

Guys, lets come to a conclusion:

Some choose to jailbreak because it allows extra features than what apple offer

Others find the jailbreak an offence to apple

    others just don't care.

Don't judge what other people choose because we all have different opinions on everything.

    :D (close topic , admins please :P )
  • IntelligentDesignerIntelligentDesigner Member Posts: 517
@Giacomopoppi, What features does jail breaking add that are worth sacrificing security?
    Besides stealing software?

I personally do not find jail breaking "an offense to Apple", I just find jail breaking to be not thought through to its ultimate conclusion.

I hope some folks have learned something by reading this discussion.

    Cheers, Giacomo!
