Game of the Month: February Submissions Thread
Hey everyone!
Time for the next Game of the Month contest! We are super excited to see this month's entries and are ready for being impressed; we're always amazed at the fantastic games and applications our community creates!
The panelists for this month will be @pHghost, @ForumNinja, @alex9876, @dgackey, & @Hopscotch! If you submitted a paid game, please be sure to send each panelist a promo code if you want it to be considered for GotM.
We will be rotating panelists each month, so if you're interested in judging, please contact @ForumNinja.
The new revised rules for the GotM are below, there are some important changes (I've bolded some of the most critical), so make sure you read them thoroughly! Good luck to everyone!
Reminders about how the Game of the Month contest works:
Submissions are open for the first 15 days of every month that the contest is held, and will close around 10 p.m. Pacific Time Zone. Make sure you get your submission in before then!
This mid-month closure allows us to play all of the submissions, evaluate and post the winner and blog post by the beginning of the following month, just as the next contest gets opened for submissions. We will announce a shortlist of 5 games roughly one week after submissions close to keep the tension high. After making the final decision, we will contact the winner via email shortly after the thread is closed. Each winner will be asked to complete a Developer Questionnaire and we will use this information to create a blog post that promotes your awesomeness! Additionally, we will feature the Game of the Month in dedicated Forum, Facebook, Twitter, and GameSalad.com blog posts!
The panel may also award honorable mentions to games other than the winner. These can be awarded for beautiful graphics, superb gameplay, an innovative concept etc. Not all categories of honorable mentions have to be awarded every month -- this will be entirely up to the panel to decide, and the game to be awarded an honorable mention need not be selected from the shortlist only. The purpose of the honorable mentions will be to draw attention to exceptional apps, even if they might not be perfect in every single way (and thus not cut to be the GotM winner).
If all that wasn't enough, the GameSalad Team has generously offered to provide a $25 Amazon gift card or free month of Pro to the winner!
Submission Rules:
- Your game must be complete and published to the AppStore or GameSalad Arcade! (We have to be able to play it to know if it is worthy of winning!)
- Just to be clear, this is not a post to simply "announce" an upcoming game.
- Please limit your entries to 1 app per person.
- Apps must be posted within this sticky thread in order for it to be considered for GotM.
- You can resubmit your app if you submitted it last month and it got shortlisted, but this can only be done once; you cannot submit it three months in a row. (You can also resubmit an app that's been entered in more than one GotM so long as it has had a significant update. The panel will decide whether the changes are substantial enough, and will disqualify and delete entries that have just had a minor tweak to get around this rule.)
- If possible, please include a Youtube gameplay/trailer video that shows the awesomeness of your game!
- If your submission is a paid app, we ask that you send a promo code to each of the panelists listed above.
- Although we are aware that there are hundreds of awesome games out there, we prefer that the game you submit was published in the last 6 months.
Contacting the Winner:
In order to be featured, winners will have one week to submit answers to a questionnaire (for us to create a sweet blog post about you).
We're eagerly looking forward to playing all of the submissions this month - it's so much fun!
Best of luck!

Our scientists found a race of strange, undead life forms. Little did we know that our experiments would upset the creatures, making them nigh uncontrollable. Desperate circumstances forced our hand to modify one of them to fight his brethren, we called it “Creepy”.
Can you finish the game?

I'm going to enter my Particle Effects Simulator for Gamesalad this month. I know it's not a game but that is exactly why I think it's worth entering, to help show the range of Gamesalad as a development tool.
There is a limited 'demo' version online that anyone can play with. Once the judges have been picked let me know and I'll be happy to send them all a full copy to evaluate.
This project has been created as a Macintosh Application so a Mac will be required to play with it.

Barricade Z
Rest your fingers and forearms as this addicting panic inducing arcade style game will keep your fingers moving all while fighting of an endless wave of flesh hungry zombies.
Place barricades to slow the enemy down while you try to stock pile ammunition.
Earn stronger weapons and maybe a nuke or two.
Good luck and have fun.

@jamie_c. Omg i want this!!!! Do you have any tutorials on particles because i just find myself guessing the whole time
@digitalzero, I'm glad you like the application. It's available for purchase from my website if your interested (as a Macintosh Application) if you don't have a Mac there is a free limited version posted as a web project.
I don't have any particle effect tutorials. Particle effects are often very specific to a projects needs so its hard to come up with a tutorial.
All of the settings are named the same in the Simulator and the actual Particle Effect Behavior so playing with the Simulator would probably help you understand at least how they work,

Looks like my app got rejected because the money in the game looked like real world money... freakin' Apple. Anyway, I will republish today but I don't know if I will be able to compete in time. That stinks.

@RabidParrot that feels, a bit, well, you know. Feels like you're really ripping off Dudolf

I guess it depends how you look at it. Because I created a game that coincides with a trending topic it is considered ripping off?
Well If we are going to try and analyze things let us start at the beginning.
Is dudolf ripping Where's Waldo off? Where's Waldo was first published in 1978. Therefore the game type of trying to find an image within an image was created well before dudolf was even born.
That being said any game that has a hide and seek style to it must be ripping Where is waldo off.
Or any game that is profiting from trending topic must be a ripping others off.
True, he created the first Find The Panda image. But that is the height of the inspiration he had in this game.
I'm not really sure what your angle is. I just see you as being a troll.
If you spent as much time trolling on other people's post you might actually come up with something worth sharing in this thread.
I wasn't trying to be a troll. I honestly think you're ripping him off. There's a difference between being inspired by something and putting your take on it, vs just lifting the concept entirely and releasing it as your own. Hell, almost every platformer is inspired by Mario. But if someone released a platform game with a little Italian plumber where you have to jump through pipes, I'd call them out on it.
Dudolf released a Find the panda in the snowman pic, and a find the cat in the owl pic. You didn't create a generic hide and seek game, you didn't just copy the mechanic. You literally just copied his two games. There's no analysing to be done.
My aim is to encourage you to add your own creativity, not to just try and profit off of somebody else's. Me calling you out on ripping off people's work is is not trolling, and it's a shame that you think it is.

@Lycan Awesome game really enjoyed playing it, good luck
But he isn't ripping off Where's Wally, like @RabitParrot says? You can't take a game that derivative and be annoyed when someone emulates it. Parrot's game is perhaps uncomfortably close, but the game being copied has literally nothing original about it either.
Contact me for custom work - Expert GS developer with 15 years of GS experience - Skype: armelline.support
But it does have stuff that original about it. He's not got a little guy in a red and white jumper hiding, no. He has copied the mechanic of looking for something, but he had added his own take on it. No longer is it a scene of people spread out, it's much harder because the entire scene is filled with characters - there's no space in between them. In fact it becomes almost a repeating pattern of characters. That makes it look and feel different to where's wally.
Now if @RabidParrot had copied just the mechanic I wouldn't have anywhere near as much of an issue (I'd still be uncomfortable with it, but maybe not vocally so). But he took the characters too. The two versions that Dudolf did, the panda hiding in snowmen and the cat hiding in owls - that's the game that @RabidParrot is presenting. That's not being inspired by a mechanic, that lifting the concept entirely.
If he'd had horses and a unicorn, wizzards and wizzards or lumberjacks and hipsters then at least he'd have done something to make it his own. And it's clearly not hard, I made those up on the spot.

I have more than just pandas and owls. I created original puzzles. I have pandas and owls because it coincides with the trending topic.
You obviously have nothing better to do than to troll and criticize others. It's not your place to tell others what they can or can't do. You're just in it for attention. I haven't seen you post your game in this thread.
But what's the world without keyboard warriors. At least you are doing something.
@imjustmike & @RabidParrot - I'm going to ask you guys to move this conversation to PM, please. This thread is not the place to discuss this.
Thanks.
