@LAdrian... The guy with this "brilliant" idea is the guy with the money. They think they will become a sub-store within the app store...on the backs of hobbyists and garbage ware.
NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
GS will be gone is 2 years or less...and anyone that sticks around instead of learning code will be screwed.

Very true. They will NEVER make a living off the very low percentage of devs that may stick around for this.
It's very sad, but also clearly defines the desperate financial situation they are in.
Follow Synthesis's advice.
Go and learn a program that will offer you more, and DON'T pigeon hole yourself into a scenario that will fail from the start.
"There is no way in hell that this will not fail. Whether they attract no one because they are now sh*t, or because they attract crappy "devs" (also because they are now sh*t) - they still lose."
ReM said: That's the part I don't understand... who is this "new user base"? In their minds they might have lowered the barrier of entry but you still have to have the desire, skills and, as far as a financial commitment is concerned, own a MAC! And let me tell you, owning a Mac costs way more than what I spent on GS and Apple Dev fee.
Got me wondering. Now that you don't need an Apple developer's license to create a GameSalad game, and therefore no need for Xcode, perhaps they will be releasing a Windows/Linux version of the GameSalad Creator? After all, you'll be testing your game on your device with an app downloaded from the App Store, and all you need is Wi-Fi for it to download your game's assets.
Would be neat, but that'd be a stretch, since the Mac version is extremely crashy right now. I know some people who specifically bought Macs to get an Apple dev license and a GameSalad membership. I wonder how they feel.

I say again...Apple will not allow an app store app to be downloaded to a device that you then feed code to.

Well, then the only other option that I see is that GameSalad will be buying up a bunch of developer accounts, we send them our UDIDs and they'll send us an ad-hoc version for us to install and use.

best laugh I've had all day...
I'm glad; I wanted to make it funny but to the point. We're all having a rough morning/afternoon/evening. >:(
How will it work when we want to update an existing app (which is under our own names) when our current license is expired? Won't iTunes not see the app as an 'update' if it's signed by a new distribution certificate?
But I still have hope. Maybe in a month we will read this:
"FireMapleGames, the game development giant that earned millions with "The Secret of Grisly Manor", said today that it would acquire Gendai Games, an innovator in modern game design, for $30 million (FMG: "peanuts, only peanuts"). When it comes to its development environment GameSalad, Gendai Games is now forced to still offer pro and express accounts, and the optional(!) mobile game publishing will be ready after(!) a reliable pause system is integrated." ... ... ;-)
I wonder if the investors ever check the GameSalad forums. probably not.... They might get to see the warning signs before their investment goes up in flames if they did.
Instead, they all seem to be excited, gloating and tweeting about the new structure. Let's see how those investments look in 6 months time if the announced plans go ahead. I don't think they're gonna be quite as excited anymore.

I didn't buy a Mac - but I worked hard to make the money needed to buy an iPhone 4, to buy an iPad, to pay for my Apple and GS licenses. A Mac would have been less than the iPhone and iPad.

Wake up Gamesalad!!
Wait a second... did I miss one of your earlier posts?
I think TSB said it best and that GameSalad is probably lurking in the forums right now to come up with a plan for moving forward. We should all probably go and grab a beer* and take the rest of the day off.
* For those of legal drinking age in their respective country; the rest can supplement with something de-alc.
Gamesalad, you're better off taking that money to Vegas, and putting on a game of Roulette, you'd have a better chance at getting a return than going this route.
@ Beyond yeah...god knows...but I'm sure that this is something Apple are still firm on ...hence all the viewer crap (adhoc/app id etc etc) that GS never had a way around. Even with the updated tos they have to be careful about every dog and his biscuit running code (xml or whatever) on their babies unchecked.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I saved all the pages just in case they are thinking of cleaning the forum... if this will happen we can all meet on touch arcade forum... I'm sure this will help their reputation even more
As has already been stated, pretty much all of us ARE going to Corona or Unity, while some who have long periods left on their licenses are considering waiting on Game Maker.
This isn't about anyone not being able to master another program; it is about the fact Gamesalad has just gone straight down the toilet, and some of us used to LOVE it.
It's distressing to love someone one minute then the next feel so full of disgust that you want to put your fist through the dry wall. In your bathroom.... Which might have been a bad idea....

I set up a forum today, for game and development discussion. I'm making it better right now. Touch Arcade is a great forum, but it's more about the consumption of games and less about development.
GS is a good program for non programmers, it however needs to be complete, the keyboard, the gps, the camera, etc the whole magila. If it is short of that then what are they going to offer, better exposure, how? We all need a totally new program that gives us the full power of ios4 and nothing less. For that I will be glad to share the revenue whatever it may be.
As for independence none of apple goofs have that we can not sell apps unless on Itunes etc etc. So its another layer.
I will give them a chance and if it does not work I predict they will fail.
I have talked with two other companies who are going to offer products that will compete directly with GS, they seem to be pretty cool programs and will take even less to make a game.
As for money that they need, well it is a world of profit and they need to move from being a small company to a profitable one, what is profit for them, I dont have a clue. But I think everyone should take a deep breath and wait till the final stuff is published.
I will watch the people I think are the best developers and see what they do, success is possible, but I want to now a lot more than I do right now. Enough secrets, which they have no reason for, just tell us like adults what is going on and then work the plan.
GameSalad is a drag-and-drop (no coding) iPhone game development program that allows someone with little-to-no programming experience to create an iPhone/iPod Touch game (little did I know, it’s really only viable for very simple games).
So I downloaded GameSalad and actually produced two games with it that went “Ready for Sale” in the Apple App Store. One of them was the first version of Doodle Dash! and the other was a game that I’ve since removed from sale. While I was initially excited about having published games for sale, there were some things about my games that I was very unhappy with.
Like what?
First was performance: GameSalad games tend to run slow/choppy, and mine was no exception. I did manage to make the game playable after doing countless performance tweaks, but the end-product definitely wasn’t at the level I wanted it to be (not even close).
Then, there was the lack of social features and web connectivity. The social nature of iPhone games (posting scores to Facebook/OpenFeint, etc) is what drew me into iPhone gaming in the first place, so it — for lack of a better word — sucked that the games we were producing couldn’t do that, not even in the simplest way. You could see your own high score in the game, that’s about as far as GameSalad would allow you to go with that.
Also, there was the issue GameSalad splash screen. Unless I paid $2,000 to have it removed (out of the question), the games we made featured a big “Made with GameSalad” splash screen that showed up for anywhere from 3-5 seconds when you first opened the app. So, not only were there performance issues (not just in-game performance, but loading times were extremely high as well), and an absence of even basic social/web features, but there was also this big fat “Made with GameSalad” that came up every time someone played the game which, in my opinion, severely wore on the credibility of the new Beebe Games brand that we were trying hard to build.
haha just found this on Corona's website. Maybe they will quote this thread soon! :L

To each their own...but I for one is not staking my company's success or failure on the success or failure of an unproven startup.
Piggy-backing Apple is one thing...but to put a startup in between me and Apple is absurd.
If you aren't in it for the $$$...then GS is the perfect tool. And your pride and joys will be surrounded by lots of crap and piles of garbage!!!
Or they'll sign up for the iOS Developer Enterprise Program. http://developer.apple.com/programs/ios/enterprise/
Yeah, this is beginning to sound worse and worse as the day progresses.
We DO in fact have other options.

Seriously.
1. Publish under the GS iTunes account
2. Publish under you own itunes account (required additional $99 Apple developer license)
Yes please to option 2 - MAKE IT HAPPEN GS!!!!!!!!!!
Why so afraid to learn to program?
