I just don't see how logistically it can all work? How will updates be handled? How will the submission process work if GS are handling thousands of Apps through Apple? What about copyright infringement issues if GameSalad are taking responsibility for and publishing Apps?
Also, surely if it did start to be popular (which it won't) surely Apple aren't going to like GameSalad having such influence on the App store and with a couple of small changes to Apples very fluid terms and conditions GS could be gone for good anyway?
Not to mention the fact that if I wanted a publisher the first thing I would want from them is good strong communication to get the word out about my games and this is the biggest weakness GameSalad has got?
The main thing that stopped me from purchasing Game Salad in the past was the fact it was the only program I had tried that could actually bring my entire mac down where I had to press and hold the power button to restart.
If it was stable perhaps they would have had more subscribers in the first place.

Yep...in 18 months of Maccy heaven after 20 years of PC Blissy hell GS is the only app ever to kernel panic my threads man....
Wow I was so happy when I opened this forum and then when I read through the yellow post my smile turned upside down.
Most Gamesalad games aren't games I would want to be associated with. Why would I post under Gamesalad??? I WANT TO BRAND MYSELF....
But goodbye everyone. @tshirtbooth Thanks for all the help on Youtube. It was fun but I'm off to unity and then when Gamemaker comes out probably over to them. See you guys in the future unless Gamesalad changes something...

You only cared about whether or not there was still an update coming - some of us actually value our names and the money our apps make for us.
It's great you are fine with losing a personal/business identity and seeing less than 50% of your revenue - honestly, good for you.
That said, no one here is jumping to conclusions. We had a yellow post and GS have made a blog post. We know what is coming and we're pissed as hell about it.
I just joined GameSalad today to start working on an iPhone game and I was restricted from doing so.
When I read at first I thought it said it was going to be free -- but when I read more about how this is going to work it's very, very bad news. My dreams are crushed... I want to publish my OWN apps, I have a iOS developer account and I should be able to do that independently.
Really upset to see this, especially the day I want to become a part of GameSalad...
Ive not checked the Unity forums for a while, but from memory I think the 2D plugin was called Sprite Engine or Sprite Manager.... something like that... Im pretty sure a search on the Unity forums for 2D and Sprites will bring up a ton of information and links to tutorials for it.
Theres a ton of Unity games done in 2D on the appstore, so I wouldnt just think of Unity as only doing 3D.

Maybe when I wake up this will all have been a terrible nightmare.
Or maybe GS will have somehow managed to suck even more; I don't think that's possible, but then I also didn't think they'd turn out to be .... let's say "this" to avoid moderation.

I've got a steady full-time job making a fair salary - GS was a hobby that I had hopes of turning into a secondary source of income... and I'm pretty dang upset by the announcement... especially since they're trying to take our IP. To that I say good day!
Wow! I've been at work all day almost cut off two fingers trying to read these post on my iPhone this is unbelievable I want a full refund for my membership it's not even a month old. I've had my company name for over a year since I first started my dev account with Apple yes I never had a game out in the app store but as soon as I got my chance with GS I went for it. Today I got an e-mail from Apple telling my game finally made it in the Review step for what so that in a year GS can take a cut from my game. I might as well learn to code and do it all from xcode or some other software.
Wow... think of all the 1099 forms they'll have to fill out. It's a lot of work to manage hundreds, perhaps thousands, of developers.
Plus... that's just paperwork in the United States. Does Gendai Games really want to get involved in such bureaucracy? Pay-per-app seems more reasonable. That would ward against shovelware, generate additional income for Gendai Games, while giving developers the independence they demand.
All they have to do to make this all go away is give us the option to pay an additional fee per app (or per year) to publish ourselves. They will make money from us (as opposed to us simply leaving), and the other option for those without iTunes accounts is still there. It's a win-win as far as I can tell. Am I missing something?
The more I think about it, the more I don't see how they won't offer us this as an paid option.
If Gamesalad go through with this, then all the dev's making QUALITY games will be forced to leave and go somewhere else, leaving alot of rubbish apps getting added to the GS account. Seriously, if I see a developer with a couple rubbish apps on the app store, I look away without even trying to find any gold. Lucky for me I only signed up a month ago, but the minute I'm no longer able to publish games to my OWN apple account, I'll be saying goodbye to GS and moving onto whatever new program becomes available because of this. GS needs to screw their head back on and stop trying to rip off their VALUED customers
Either way whether they own your IP or not this all sucks. If they want more money all they had to do was charge more annually or charge an additional fee per app and not $500 per app GS just incase you guys take that the wrong way. I have one question for TSB I remember you started a thread saying Chillingo was interested in your game Mini Cannon but you turned them down I had suggested to go with them why the sudden change to let GSD handle your game now?
I just don't understand why GS would announce this, the obvious downside to the new regime, without releasing any sort of positive information about what they've been doing the last 3 months?
They must be testing the waters for community reaction or something. Unless it really is just a hilariously bad PR move...

What a joke this was (:

If it is the latter, then you would probably have a very different reaction, but if you're doing this as a hobby, then it won't sting as bad.
But seeing this post today is rubbing salt on the wound of many people already struggling to make a living as developers.
Maybe when I wake up this will all have been a terrible nightmare.

Night all.
Yeah, I think hobbyist, or not, this is not an attractive plan to say the least.
Gawd I feel like a broken record

If you made a game featuring sammy the squirrel, he would remain your creation. Only you could make games with him, not GS.
Hope that clears things up,
