I don't think that the license should be sold to specific people because it's not fare to the ones like me that are willing to learn and actually cough up money to actual artist to do there artwork for games. I've only had GS for a month and I am learning the curve with it now so don't say that only pro developers should have the best membership because I'm also willing to cough the money up for it once I learn how to use it properly.
Hey, Im all for people learning, and you could still go the GS direct route. What I'm saying is that PRO should be an option for those of us that are going to make products where we don't want our brand diluted with poor quality products. Epic does this with its tiered pricing-feature structure.

I agree. Although in all honesty, I really don't think most people ever even notice who makes or publishes the games. But yeah, I think they should definitely keep the pro option open.

I know I also want to use my brand not there's since I know how bad they've been bashed online. I see it this way if I'm going to suck then let people know I was sucking bad. Lmao this sounds horrible but you guys know what I meant.

Trust me, when people start seeing that GS logo on crappy games they bought on whim....I guarantee you people will notice, especially reviewers. Never discount word of mouth, be it internet or face to face.
You are correct, the average user probably doesn't check the name on who made the app today, but buy a few stinkers, you start to pay attention. And that splash screen has an effect. NGMOCO...CHILLINGO...yeah, you get it.
Why do you think THQ dropped all the studios making Shovelware....it almost sunk the company, and it did sink AKKLAIM and ATARI...TWICE...lol.

Hmmm, good point on the reviewers. My game was reviewed on TouchArcade and the writer said something like "quite good for GS game". LOL
Backupanddown, you are exactly the customer GS is looking for. I don't mean any insult by that. I think it's clear they are giving up on the more professional developers that are making much more money for themselves than they are for GS. I think young or inexperienced users are who they are going for. I think they want the GS name to explode on the appstore like some of these silly videos on youtube that have millions of views. They don't care about the quality of the app, because if you have 50,000 shovelware apps on the appstore and your getting a percentage of each, you will make lots of money. Plus there is always the potential for an app to explode through viral marketing, like facebook (i.e. 1000's of friends), or even the occasional terrible and undeserving app being promoted by apple themselves and making ridiculous amounts of money very quickly.
Its going to be more of a, tell all your friends you made an iphone app in two minute type thing. Post videos on youtube and facebook and tweet about it. All while the only people making any real money is the publisher.
All of this makes for a good business model, just not for the developers, especially the serious ones.
That's business folks, care more about the bottom line than the customer.

Yeah back in the old days of games, you could get away with making 1000's of crap games because there was no real grapevine like there is today. You saw the commercial on TV and you were like...wow, I gotta have that!
However that all died with the boom of the internet, you cant sell 1000's of copies of garbage because people network and warn each other about garbage, or more importantly trumpet quality.
There wasn't a GameStop on every corner years ago. Games were bought at Sears, or some other big box store where most people there weren't going to warn you about crap or tell you wants hot.
Go into Game Stop and find a copy of Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and ask them, should I buy this?....after the laughing stops, they will hand you Halo reach.
So that comment from a reviewer isn't a shock to me. I worked on probably the worst console game ever, and that reputation (even if wasn't your fault the game was bad) sticks with your company, and your publisher forever....trust me.

I actually got a good review but the fact they pointed out GS was what I was getting at ;-) I can't remember the exact wording and the review would be well lost by now... was a few months ago on the main page. So yeah, people do notice.
I just want to go on the record of saying for 95% of you here that want to get your feet wet with game development, what they are offering will be a godsend. For the 5% of us here that want to make something more feature rich....this was the last nail in the coffin.
Professional development was barely possible already with game salads poor performance and extremely anemic feature set. You were basically limited to super simple games...but now with what they are proposing....I just don't see any value in GS for anything other then a mockup tool. Which even if I had to pay 100 for...was worth it I suppose.

I agree with the first bit but disagree with the rest. How complicated do you need your game to be? I've played many amazing games that were made with GS and I am NOT a casual gamer!
I HATE taptard games. Have you played QS's Kraken? Awesome old-school shooting with a bit of strategy thrown in to the mix. FMG's amazing new adventure game, Grisly Manor (I haven't played it yet but from all accounts, it's stunning), Utopian's Bumps, Beat City (yes thr controls need a lot of work but it's a heap of fun with loads of potential)... yes, GS has its limitations but that's where the skill comes in. If you can't work around them, you're not much of a designer.
Just like in the old days when consoles had miniscule memory... you just have to be clever with the "code". I really get sick of this bad tradesman blaming the tools thing. GS CAN MAKE BLOODY DECENT GAMES, there is loads of evidence to this but people like to block it out and moan. Actually, no... GS can't make decent games... GS users can... at least, some of them.
No, currently there is no Game Centre or Facebook etc... that will come, as will many more features.

Having worked for THQ, knowing that reputation of which you speak, do you mind naming the studios they dropped, and which of their titles were "shovelware?"
I mean no disrespect by this, but i find it kinda funny how they won't answer any of our gs related questions but will come in here and post a completely unrelated question expecting an answer...

I did, honestly its really hard to quit. So used to using the forums, its going to take time to adjust. Its been a pretty big part of my life for the last couple of months. Thats why its so hard. I'm trying.

Well, Im not going to alienate myself to former colleagues by naming names of some of the games that THQ put out that were absolute garbage. There was no secret amongst THQ designers that THQ stood for TO HELL with QUALITY.
As for the studio closings....THQ closed the studios that it thought were deadweight, and kept those that were making money, its business 101. 2 were dropped, and forced to go independent and 1 was sold last year around March or April. The year before that 6 more were closed, and lots of poor performing franchises were killed.
If you were a former employee, this should be common knowledge.
**EDIT**
THQ has rededicated itself to quality after the last round of studio closings. The last memo email I received before my @THQ email account was closed was a promise that they were going to change the company, its products, and practices, to shake that Shovel-ware rep they had.
and from what I have seen come from them since then, it looks like they have.

Canada? I thought i was the only one here from Canada! Are you hiring? All I need is a place to lay my bedroll, a few cups of rice and a can of tuna a day and you can have yourself a game/graphic designing robot. XD

I've played a few games from GS...and a few were entertaining for what they are. Good simple fun. But saying there is no AngryBirds, Peggle, or Fruit Ninja on GS is because we are not good designers, is probably the most ignorant statement I have yet to hear on this board.
You ARE limited on what types of games and you can build with GS. And what I wanted to do wasn't possible, I wont even mention the inability to do multiplayer...but hey Im sure you can do multiplayer right? Or am I just not smart enough to figure that out....maybe I should check the wiki again on multiplayer functionality......
It would be kinda funny if the reason they haven't been able to release the update/news is because they can't keep up with all the new posts in the forums. =P
