I for one, really appreciate all the hard work you guys put in to this product. GameSalad is still amazing, magical software to me. It has honestly changed my life.
It makes me so sad to think that I won't be able to use this tool anymore.
Apparently Corona has 15,000+ developers using their product. Their software costs $350. Now, I realize that most of their current users either got the software for free or with a discount, but come next year, most will be renewing their subscription at the full price.
15,000 x $350 is over 5 million dollars. I would love for GameSalad to be able to offer a similar pricing model - and be able to attract as many users.
The publishing model is great for new developers who need assistance with marketing, or navigating the business side of things. But isn't desirable at all for people who want to remain independent. Hopefully new options will become available that will allow people like me to continue to use GameSalad.
Here's to a bright future for both GameSalad, and the users who love creating fantastic games with it!
@backupanddown: I am staying at least until March - honestly, hopefully forever - but we will have to see.
I'm pretty sure that you will not be able to transfer someone's account to yours. You will just have to wait until they announce their plans. I realize that is frustrating!
Personally, I would pay to get early beta builds. Every project I have ever created has experienced weird problems and would love to show the problems.
firemaplegames said: I realize that is frustrating!
You have no idea, I quit my job and was about to buy a express account literally on the day they took that option down. I probably acted to hastily but now I have to sit here and do nothing but wait. *Sigh*
Thanks for yellow posts:) It helps a lot, to know you aren't ignoring us. Sometimes I forget that theres is humans behind GS. So sorry for the nasty things I've said. I'm sticking with GS until my license expires(June), and hopefully by then you have an option for people like me who has to release games under their own company name. If not I have to leave ( learning another program now as plan . Good luck, and I'm looking forward to the update:)
99% of the anger vented here over the last few days has been at the business decision that seemingly alienates those of us who want to be a little more "pro" about how we treat our use of GS as a tool.
Most post actually start with something along the lines of how much that person loves the software. Sure, it has it's flaws, as does pretty much every piece of software out there.
Good to know some (all?) of you guys have read this thread though. And I, for one, am always excited for a new update to the SOFTWARE. ;o)
I especially like the hint about fast loading times (always a bugbear for us)

Bingo - you understand the situation.
If other software companies can be profitable by simply creating development kits, why can't GameSalad do the same thing? At $500 per year, they only need 10,000 users to hit 5 million dollars. If they want to do GameSalad Direct® in addition to Pro subscriptions, that's a good idea. If they help developers make better games, by providing them with useful resources, then that's a service which will set GameSalad apart from their competitors.
They shouldn't destroy what they've already built though. There are lots of talented developers here. Without options for Pros, they will leave.
Gendai Games should resolve this issue quickly and get back to making money.
I realized this issue as I was waking up this morning. Why did I want to go Pro? I wanted to put iAds in my games. Why did I want to do that? I wanted to make more money. Why are most of the people (if not all) here? They want to make money too.
Follow that logic to an obvious outcome.
I decide to test GameSalad Direct® and I release Arcade Action as intended... with iAds. My plan works beautifully. My game gets hundreds-of-thousands of downloads and I make hundreds of dollars a week. Now, someone else under the GameSalad banner releases an iAds app too, but instead of promoting it... the developer just sits in his room, clicking iAds banners. Other unscrupulous developers start doing the same thing.
In a panic to protect their advertisers, Apple puts an iAds freeze on the GameSalad account. All iAds are blocked. I start losing money because of issues outside my control. While I'm acting honorably, other GameSalad developers might not. But because I'm associated with GameSalad, I suffer the same penalty.
Suggestion: Leave iAds as a Pro only feature. Bring back Pro. Price Pro to be more competitive with Corona and Unity.
You guys are just beating a dead horse. Gendai has already said they've read the forums, if they aren't going to change it then your continues rants aren't going to change there minds. And how do you know they haven't already changed there plans? you don't, so theres no point posting the same thing over and over.
I'm just as anxious, inpatient and sleep deprived as you but at this points theres nothing we can do but wait.
BackUpAndDown said: so theres no point posting the same thing over and over.
I wasn't aware that the iAds issue was mentioned previously. I think that adds to the discussion. It seems that GameSalad Direct® wasn't thought through. Meanwhile, GameSalad is losing money by not having a product available.
BackUpAndDown said: How can you tell them what will work and what won't? You don't know what kind of deals or connections they have with Apple. =P
They would need a special arrangement with Apple to manage it... like killing iAds on an app level... but if they have that level of communication with Apple, why squander it on such a foolish venture?
Simply put GameSalad on every new Mac! Let the software make Mac games for free. Upgrade to make iPhone games for $250-$500.
I think I might have seen something like this for Comic Life.
Khakionion said: Although the developers try to stay on top of the forums' activity, sending your repro cases directly to GameSalad is the only guaranteed way for bug reports to make it to the developers!
And now that we have a much better way to see all of the incoming messages, I'll get to them right after I get back from the doctor's office.

I want to be independent two. I want a pro licence! Please gs make somwthing like that in your new model.
Thanks for all the Yellow posts. In no way do I hate you guys and appreciate you hard work, but have clearly stated that you could at least respond to your users in a timely manner (professional). Be it yourselves or your new heads let this blow up in everyones face. Even if you are sworn to secrecy the least you can do as a business that looks like it cares, is create a new yellow thread stating your working on our concerns so everybody can see it. You'll get over the rude comments but the damage you incurred from lack of communication will take time to fix. If you are to become a great company you will learn from this episode and one day we will all look back and laugh. I tell ya what just to show I care (so long as you come up with a viable solution) GS can come to my house for lunch. How many of you are there anyway?
Wow, It amazing... If you think about it... I think that if those 2 yellow post from kaki and dcm were posted in the 1st or 2nd page we wouldn't be at page 41, probably page #10 at the most... and probably with johnmulcahy and some other still around. I been here 4 month and the issue with the communication has always been the same. So to give you the benefit of the doubt and believe that for legal reason you can not speak now, I will also have to believe that you been in this situation for the past 4 month. Is this the case? Also to kaki: (as a joke but with a bit of seriousness) be a little bit faster the next time Yodapollo speak or better yet, you be the one who deliver the next news...
Communication has always been an issue as far as I can tell but expect with their new funding and version 1.0 coming, they will provide a better help desk and bug reporting solution.
The anger comes out of frustration, for some of us that have spent a lot of time with GS trying to work around it's shortcomings and flaws to put out a decent product only to get blindsided with news like this will bring out this kind of emotion. If we knew about this earlier, we woulnt have wasted 2 months of time and went in another direction.
Is GS good software? I have mixed emotions on that. Work with tools like Ue3, KryEngine3, and your idea of quality software is skewed. I will say, for $100 GS is fairly priced, when pro was $500, Pro was priced right, but $2000, not on your life. Maybe if they charged per game, instead of a yearly subscription? Or, maybe not, I'm not privy to GS sales figures.
