THE OFFICIAL THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX FORUM THREAD

A 3 week game competition for users of the the GameSalad Development software.

The competition kicks off on the 18th of July and will last 3 weeks(today…)

You must submit a video of gameplay (plus short description of why it is 'Outside the Box') to this official thread before 12pm (noon) GMT on the 9th of July.

The Theme for the contest is:

'The Ocean'.

The theme should allow for an endless range of game ideas:
Games based around the sea, submarines, oil leaks, fish, turtles, sea horses, waves, shells, whirlpools, tsunamis, the great abyss, God of the sea (Poseidon), Atlantis, mermaids, crabs... swimming, speed boats, yachts, pollution, algae, dolphins, whales, pirates, robotic sharks with friggin lazer beams strapped to their heads....

Developers taking part are encouraged to run their own thread in the 'Think Outside The Box' GameSalad forum category. The thread can detail the progress on the game, from concept, early sketches, videos showing stages of game design and general fun discussion on design, gameplay and more.

I hope we have lots of people taking part and that everyone enjoys it…

    I do have some ocean themed games I want to make. To be honest, I wanna be positive but I'm not really hyped with that theme as the challenge might be more into spriting around that theme and making the game unique than thinking outside the box around it, but it's still cool anyways :)

    There's gonna be a lot of underwater games around here! e-pig dive would be one hell of a graphic set for that theme haha! XD

    Does the game have to be scened IN the ocean? or can it have ocean related things. Like have the main character be a fish but its not located in the ocean. Just curious. thanks!

    Son of a bitch! The game I'm working on already is fucking ocean based, and I wanted to use this as a quick one off, for practice! Tell me the rules are that I can't use existing work... The. The biggest problem, is I plan to make the soundtrack for my game with a friend of mine, which makes it a team... And the music is very important.

    Alright... Channel...

    I will create a new ocean based idea.

    @DreamLab.... as long as there is some sort of Ocean related it should be fine..whether the judges will give you lower points for some area I'm not sure.... having a fish character in a car racing game on the land with normal cars probably would not cut it... having a fish character driving a speed boat/submarine would be much more suitable...

    @Metronome.... good luck coming up with an original idea, the theme i reckon its very do able... good luck

    I've emailed Yoda to ask him to make it so all the TOTB3 threads don't pop up in the recent activity section... its the weekend..So not sure if it will happen till early next week....

    Does the game have to be designed for iphone? Will the judges vote by looking at the final gameplay video, or by actually testing the game?

    its a bit crazy seeing all the TOTB3 threads...very exciting...

    and @RH... Damn it your right I thought I'd fixed that mistake...forgot I put it on the poster... Doh!
