It was mentioned. But then stormy said that it was to be a video because some people's where not the correct format.

Yeah I would not bother with an arcade version unless you just want everyone to have a play. I doubt most of the judges will have time to play a bunch of games along with the video.
"Cursed Ocean" is a game I've created by thinking completely "outside the box". It's "outside the box" because it is a unique idea…i mean how many other apps have exploding crabs and killer birds?. I used a fabric-style texture for the graphics which is different from the graphics used in other applications. It's stylish and very eye-catching. I wanted to create a game with a "handmade" look to it and I feel i have achieved this. The aim of the game is to fire your cannon (mounted to the pirate ship) to destroy the bids and other sea creatures attacking you. The cannon is very easy to fire with the neat control system, which is easy to grasp. Overall i feel this game is different to any other ocean based game in the Appstore. "Cursed Ocean" is a very fun and entertaining. You can also collect power-ups like 'the tsunami.'
I did not get the game 100% Finished, but its good enough to upload and i have no more time. I had much fun participating in this contest, i hope you enjoy my video, and good luck to all!
Looks like im done. Don't want to be, but I have to be. Leaving in 3 hours for California for my birthday! hah.
Game is called Onyo (main characters name).
Story Line: Onyo is a very Curious Fishy who loves to play. One day he was playing as saw something waving in the distance. He looked and he looked, but he could not see what it was. So he went over to check everything out. When he got there, he did not know what they were. These purple things were interesting. He went to touch one, and it HURT! But he remembered that he had a bandaid. He wanted to play with them, but he couldn’t without getting hurt. Then a smart sea turtle come over and said “use your bubbles scaly one,” and swam off. From then on Onyo, played and played with those purple and pink pokey things. That it until it was time to go home.
When I first started the competition, Dr. Seuss was in my mind and I mean he was the BEST at thinking outside the box, so I wanted to be more like Seuss. I decided that I would teach a moral in my game (a very corny one, but still a moral). I wanted to teach kids "Don't count your chickens before they have hatched". The first moral I was going to do, was for the environment and using resources, but that topic isn't original at all.
As you can see the artwork too, was inspired by Seuss, I tried my own take on it, but the man is a genius at what he does.
As far as the game goes I am very excited. -Super fun game play. -Nice replay -Upgrade System ---6 Upgrades with 5 levels each -10 Achievements -100% Original Art
You play until you run out of bandaids, or run out of time and have to go home. All in all, LOVED the competition, and I feel sorry for the judges. hah
VIDEO. As far as the video goes. I didn't/don't have the time to make anything fancy, and I don't want to try and add any gimmicks to the game to try and make it pop. WYSIWYG

"You'll never look at the ocean the same way again!"
Haunted Blue is a survival horror game. This is a little different from the other survival games in that the enemies only appear when the screen is black. Haunted Blue tests your reflexes and direction.
What makes this game outside the box is that it looks at the ocean in a completely different way than other games. There are games that look at the ocean in a peaceful way, and there are games that look at the ocean as a dangerous area. However, has there been a game that looks at the ocean as a creepy and haunted place where you don't want to be for more than 5 seconds? That's how this game separates itself from the others.
Another thing I'd like to add is the controls. The controls are unique from other games and take getting used to (there will be a practice mode to help you get accustomed to the controls), but the controls are highly flexible. You can tap somewhere and the fish will go to that spot. You can also drag your finger around and the fish will follow it constantly. You can even do both at the same time! Use the controls to your advantage!
Hope you enjoy and good luck to everyone else with the competition!
Hello friends, this is my entry for the contest TOTB3. An RPG about Pirates.
I could not finish. but the logic is ready. Missing art, sounds, and put the events in the correct locations. 13 x 8 map grid = 104 encounters - Merchant ships - 6 pirate ships - A ghost pirate ship - Giant waves - 10 sea monsters - 1 final boss (not the evil committed was defined) - Police ships - Fog and darkness
- You can spend your $$$ on 6 items: - Up to 5 Canons - Team to quickly recharge - Improved hull - More powerful shots - Longer range of vision on the map - Mobility with the compass
I hope you like it and vote for my game! will be epic! and good luck to everyone else with the competition! visit http://marcosriffel.com
I'm going to try and post a post when it hits 12pm gmt, I've set an alarm but there's a chance I won't have any phone signal at the time. So if it hits 12pm gmt can you please post saying the time so we know if any entries are too late. Cheers
Just like to note that I did give credit for the music. Check the description of my entry video. I'm posting this to make sure you guys know that I am not breaking any copyright laws. Don't want to get disqualified unfairly!
Notice: In the video in the boss battle there is supposed to be no music and I quit out of boss because I didnt want the video to be too long.
This game is about mystery and not knowing whats going to happen. Its a survival type game in where you defend yourself from the enemies as you are collecting blue orbs to grow and eventually split apart since your species is dying out and your the last one of your kind. What makes this game outside the box is the uniqueness of the music, gameplay, and many game mechanics it has. An interesting mechanic is if you shoot you lose part of your cells and you decrease in size so instead of ammo its your cells and if you run out the game is over.Another outside the box thing is the controls not only can you shoot with wasd but if you shoot, on an idevice, you by touching four sections of the screen for up down left and right shooting and of course an accelerometer controls for idevice for moving. There is also another thing about this game that is unique the size of the field and how you can explore a very vast space. Next the boss battle is a chase of the creepy fish and you have to escape to the end where the enemy gets hurt by a giant poisonous orb. Also the story behind it all is different from almost all games. Lastly the awesome art is very unique from many other ocean games with a new style. So overall I think my game is definitely outside the box since it has so many new and interesting things about it.
A list of features this game has is -Several enemies -2 powerups -Vast space for exploration -Story Mode -Endless Mode -Boss battle -Cool Art -Tutorial -Great game mechanics -Cool Controls -A nice story behind the game
Thats it I hope you like the game and hopefully this game will come out on ios.
It is an adventure game where you play as a baby dolphin, and have to ride currents, as fast as you can, to your mother.
Not many features as of now, but some of the ones present are as follows.
- Timer, to beat your time. - Progressing speed. - Hitting the side slows you down. - Cool Graphics... - Joystick that changes rotation, when needed... - A speedometer
Not near the completion of how I would want it, but hopefully I will eventually be able to finish it and release it on the App Store.
Here is my final entry for the Think Outside The Box 3 Contest.
Break For It!
I'm not quite sure why, but the video is slightly washed out, so please be understanding.
Break For It! is about the treacherous journey that baby sea turtles must make once they hatch from their eggs. It has been said that only 1 sea turtle out of 1000 will make it to adulthood. How far can you make it?
Jump and boost your way to the ocean and live as long as you can! Use your boost wisely as you can only use it intermittently. Do you save it so you can avoid the bird? Or use it up to put more distance between you and the crab or shark?
Break For It! has a unique diorama style that is literally “out of the box.” I wanted the game to feel like you are picking up a box and using your imagination to populate the box with handmade crafts that tell a story.
A few GameSalad achievements: - Gameplay is endless and can seamlessly change location to the ocean. - No loading for retry. - Custom font for distance dynamically adjusts to stay centered. - Reusing and recycling actors like a mad man to keep performance up. - A near complete game in almost 3 weeks! (my brain, melting...)
I fell horrible, but I am afraid that I will not be able to finish my game on time. GAAAH. I just feel sad..... I forgot about the contest this week and forgot about my project. No one know what I'm feeling right now.
@ Oaklandasfan dont feel bad. Everyday is not same. Post here what ever you did. Dont lose your hope think possible and be ready for TOTB4. create check list and find what you miss this time and avoid those mistakes in TOTB4. Good luck
If you make the video fullscreen and make it 720p you can see it in great detail! Also I apologize for the bit of grey screen at the beginning!
It's the legendary story of the titanic! Join the captain of the Titanic on the Ships Maiden Voyage, keep the ship from crashing and ultimately save lives.
Simple fun arcade style action with 2 gameplay modes that flow seamlessly together following the events of the titanic.
I apologize i didnt have more time to make a neat trailer video, or add more various character types to the second gameplay mode, but I work at a University building online courses and the last few weeks have been crunch time, as well as other various client projects i needed to tie up.
I do plan on polishing this game up a bit more and releasing it on the app store, and the gamesalad arcade(if i can ever get it to work ;-)!)
Anyways I had alot of fun and you get to see a Leo Dicaprio look alike flailing for his life!!!
One man. One submarine. One man in a one man submarine. He's rolling in the deep because he's Detective Deep. Scouring the deep dark ocean for evidence.
Detective Deep is an underwater adventure that's kind of relaxing and also kind of intense, but always fun. You are a top detective in a submarine looking for evidence in the deep dark ocean, luckily you have a mighty beam of light on your sub to help guide you. This game is thinking outside of a box that's outside of several other boxes.
There are many sea creatures and items in the ocean. Some of the creatures can hurt your submarine and some of the items in the ocean won't help the case you're on so you'll have to weave through the danger and bypass the wrong items and try to find items related to the case given to you.
-Evidence Mode: 30 seriously silly cases. Your goal is to find 3 pieces of evidence that relate to the case. The faster you complete the case, the more stars you'll receive.
-Challenge Mode: You have 60 seconds to collect as much gold as possible while avoid threats. The ocean lighter and tropical on this mode but its still dangerous. Highscores!
-Unique top down gameplay. Control your submarine with either tilt or touch and move.
-Enormous scenes with oceans beyond oceans.
-Stylistic hand drawn(on tablet) art with pixel effects. Retro style animations. Beautiful retina resolution enabled art.
-Vivid use of layers and transparencies to make everything appear like its actually in the water.
-Dynamic sounds that add to the atmosphere including a sound that happens whenever a shark is near and heading in your direction.
-Great sharks, hammerhead sharks, mermaids, giant and regular octopuses, sting rays, sea turtles, electric eels(like the MGMT song) and more!
-All the art, development, concepts and music were done by me. The sound effects are commercial free from Garageband, but I layered them with effects and etc to my liking so they aren't like normal though.
The first video is gameplay. I tried to script some things but I made creatures show up randomly in random areas which is great when playing but not when trying to show off the game in a little video. I placed all the items for the 1st case on the video together for time purposes, normally the 3 items your looking for would be nowhere near each other. Here's video one;
Ok and the second video just shows one of the Gameover parts and I also show some of the art since these videos don't show up that clear on the preview.
Sorry for the lagging parts in the video, Screenr.com is free but it can be a bit wacky. I made these videos just for this so these arent like trailers or anything.
Anyways I want to thank everyone behind this TOTB competition. It was stressful & tiring but fun and worth it. I learned a lot and I might not have came up with this game idea if it wasn't for this so thank you everybody!
I'm going to continue to test it and polish up some things, but it should be available in the app store sometime soon! I have it setup and Apple is waiting on the binary.
Lastly I must say. This game is definitely thinking outside the box. What other game are you a detective in a submarine avoiding giant octopus and sharks while looking for evidence from crimes like the one were the baseball player had a steroid injected baseball bat that hit 1000 homeruns in a single season?
DoMan said: What does AD HOC mean? Everyone seems to be saying it, and the dictionary didn't help either.
It means a full build through the server to a finished app, but for testing and viewing purposes. There are some minor differences in the build from what you would get in the viewer and it allows one to see how your app will really run.
I don't have a name for the game yet, but I will just call the game Scuba Steve for the competition.
Video:
So the game first takes place in the South Pacific near the Fiji Islands. You play as Scuba Steve, an experienced diver. Steve makes a living collecting items while diving underwater and then bringing them back to the island to sell to the islanders. While Steve is diving he has to avoid obstacles, as well as keep a look out for the items on his list. He must collect the 7 items on his list before returning to the islands. Steve needs to also make sure he keeps an eye on his air tank or he will drown. Scuba Steve is a point and click adventure that is fun for all ages.
I believe my game is outside the box because there is no other game like it. I could have easily created a runner type game or a plat former based in the ocean, but I thought outside the box and made a very in depth, adventure game. The game has amazing graphics and catches the eye of the normal person. The simplicity of the controls makes the game easy to play and fun to use. The game is still at the beginning stages and I would like to add much more on to it as I continue to work on the game.
"It was long thought that phytoplankton were the only organisms in the sea that could harvest the energy from sunlight for growth," says Dr. Jarone Pinhassi, scientist in marine microbiology at Linnaeus University, Sweden.
The video tells all the story;
There are 4 possible endings to this game. I only managed to complete 3 of them at this time.
Every decision you make in the game earns you GOOD or EVIL points.
There are special upgrades (as you evolve between levels) for either personality. (Good and Evil).
I couldn't menage to complete the graphics of the "land" levels (the character gets out of the ocean to help people, if GOOD enough or to attack people if EVIL enough).
I couldn't menage to complete the graphics of the "space" levels (the aliens attack the earth. If GOOD enough you can defend the humanity. If EVIL enough you can join the Aliens and destroy them and the humans.)
Hello everyone! Here is my entry for the TOTB3 contest.
Lazy Fish
This fish is far away from home, and is way too lazy to swim all the way back. You have to help this lazy creature find his way back home by using several different methods:
1.Sliding: Help the fish slide his way through the underground hills. 2.Rotating objects: Jump from object to object, they will start to rotate once you land on them. 3.Bumpy Road: Use bumpy road mechanics to help the fish jump when a dangerous object is near. 4.Line drawing physics: Draw lines to help the fish roll his way back home.
As time progresses the fish's energy bar will decrease, so make sure to collect energy powerups along the way. If you forget to, you'll soon have a dead fish!
-------
My game is outside the box because of several reasons. First, the concept of a fish not being able to swim due to his laziness is very original and cute. Also, the game has all of these different game mechanics all implemented in one package, yet it still managed to maintain a very simple look and design.

I will post screenshots later.
Everything is done by myself. Game, art, music and sounds.
Screen dumps from my iPhone as promised. (Note: I posted these after the closing time).
