Not wanting to fan the flames but I do have a question about this entire issue.
Typically a content provider (cartoonist, writer etc)would use a publisher to get into markets they themselves can't get into. A writer can't get Barnes and Noble to carry or buy their book - you need a publisher to really get into a retail market. Walmart won't buy an indie movie from the film maker. They buy films from a distributor, you typically need a distributor to get into the retail brick and mortar stores.
However the App store is open to anyone with $99. So I don't quite understand the need for a publisher for iphone apps. What exactly does a publisher do, promise or provide that I myself can't do? And if each title isn't going to receive a significant market push beyond what you can do yourself - then why split the revenue?
Am I missing something? This seems like a no brainer to me. No emotion, no nasty comments. Just a shrug of the shoulders, well wishes to all. And walk away a little wiser.

Very good points.
I mentioned a while ago a conversation some colleagues and I had basically saying that 'traditional' publishers weren't necessary in a digital space.
Traditional publishers would: 1: Buy or support the development of a product 2: Manufacture the game (as in press the physical copies) 3: Get it into the distribution channels (i.e. put the boxes on shelves in shops) 4: Market the product 5: Take a huge cut for the services rendered.
The app store means that an individual is the publisher. Points 1, 2, 3 and 5 are essentially null and void here.
Which leaves number 4 - market the product.
Publishers are, in the digital distribution space, essentially marketeers - and as people like tshirt, utopian and FMG have shown, marketing yourself is perfectly viable.
Yeh looks like someone is already doing this... I've had 5 posts including 1 thread deleted in the last 2 hours. Since their were no cussing in them and they were airing my right to protest the goings on around here at the moment I would call it a very bad move to be doing that. I am screen shotting my posts and am sure that the free technology press would love to know that this sort of thing is happening.
It's one thing to censor posts when they are offensive, but when they are airing a right of free speech without offense then thats just plain bad.

Alcamie I would call that
I was joking. We were making light of the fact that this whole thing has gotten out of hand. I myself have only deleted posts that are profane and/or inappropriate. All for freedom of speech here ;-)
Nobody will remove your right to free speech here, LOL. But if you post the same thing in multiple threads (spam), directly attack people, swear, etc., it will get removed.

@ dmcdowell Not only did someone remove my right to free speech, some one even edited my post and intentionally impersonated me instead of just so called censoring. This is imoral if not illegal. I point to this here http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=12180
You have logs. Please find out who is breaking your Moderation rules and deal with it properly.. I have copies of every posted and deleted post now.
You know. If GS will just tell us a date or even approximate date by which they will answer the questions (even if its a ways away), maybe GS can save some customers, save some face and avoid potential lawsuits or worse yet a class action (let's hope cooler heads prevail). Cheers!
Gendai/GameSalad, who ever you are these days, please note what you are doing to your community! This used to be a lovely place to be around, everyone helping each other and no flaming etc. This used to be one of your core attractions and what set you apart. I see a lot of people arguing now, especially the ones who are taking their anger out at the sous-chefs! The sous-chefs have done nothing here, they know no more than what we do, they are trying to make these forums better for everyone but keeping it pc and friendly, they DONT just go editing posts for the sake of it, you should know where the boundaries are and if you over step the line you're going to get your post edited. We all need to remember the sous-chefs are moderating off their own backs, they are giving up their time to try and help us all, lets not give them a hard time and Gendai/GameSalad, please give them some help! You've dropped the bomb around here and ran off and left them to deal with the brunt of everyones frustrations!
What ever doesn't kill it makes it stronger? Lets hope.
As for "a right to free speech" - that's *in public*. We're in Gendai/GameSalad's house now, so you kind of agree to play by their rules. Just thought I should put that out there as it does my head in when I've been an admin elsewhere. People always call "free speech" if you have to moderate them even if they're blatantly disregarding the rules. (I'm not saying you did btw alcamie, I'm just ranting, hehe)
Heavy handed moderation is obviously bad news but I don't envy the sous chefs either.. I agree 100% with beefy!
.. But I'm still totally unhappy about the lack of information and extreme uncertainty.
Comments
"But it's less direct than the current version"
"GameSalad inDirect?"
"I like it, but does it really reflect us as a company?"
"GameSalad MisDirect?"
"Hmm, close"
"GameSalad Disaffect?"
"Niiice, and we'll make more money right?"
"That's right, remember, we were going to call it GameSalad Recollect"
"Ok, Oh man! The developers are going to LOVE this!"
"Hmmm, you don't think we're being a bit GameSalad Disrespect?"
"No way! We're GameSalad Perfect! Can't remember when my excitement went this GameSalad Unchecked!"
"Oh no, not again, i'll get the GameSalad Disinfect"
Just joking guys. We gotta laugh too eh?
Cheers!

are gone...so When is the GS new system going to be launched?
Will this be soon like next month?
Something amazing needs to happen now really for this GS direct thing to excite pretty much any existing customers left I guess.
s'all getting a bit boring now.,,,,meh. It's 3:40.. bed-time
You may like what is going to happen but if this happens its bye bye to GS.
GS is a great tool for younger and less experienced developers and with GS Direct they are just slapping everyone in the face.

Evidently you *don't* spend 24/7 on here. Whatever.
It's just a shame this whole situation has meant people I actually used to enjoy reading on the forums have undergone a bloody humour transplant.
No smilies this time. No 'cheers'. I can't be arsed.
