It's just a shame this whole situation has meant people I actually used to enjoy reading on the forums have undergone a bloody humour transplant.
I can understand people having a 'humour transplant' GS are basically going to screw us all over. Lets hope they read 51+ pages of negative comments and decide not to change.
I've been gone for a couple of months and I come back to this. Obversely GS was not making enough money. If you don't make money you don't stay in business. I guess we will wait and see what happens.
I think people DO have the right to ask for a refund as it can derail development plans. I have had to contact several past clients letting them know I will no longer be able to do updates for them after X Date.
So say you work on a project that you want to keep evolving over a course of a few years, the fact it is now changing to a GS Direct model to be published under Gendai totally screws up everything. No one wants to develop for another company and be put in another "pool" of apps. I would be highly upset if I just bought Pro and this came along, enough so I wouldn't have wasted time here I would have just got a lawyer.
You sign up for software to help you develop your IP and understand it is a yearly TOS but when you completely change directions with the product and do not offer a refund is a not the best way to do business. Luckily for me I will just move on since I have never spent the pro fee but I can sympathize with others who are looking at more longer term projects rather than a quick 3 month turn around. OR who have clients who might want a part 2 a year down the line but by that time you are not able to provide them with that update/new product.
I am wondering if those numbers are slightly fudged...by including all existing users...since technically...they have been grandfathered into the new platform.
To double your user base in 1 week is pretty astounding.
According to GS...they have had 1200 apps compiled...so that tells me there are/were approx. 500-800 users prior...maybe a few 100 more at most. So for me...I am a bit skeptical if indeed over 1000 new users showed up from a few obscure press releases and a magazine ad or 2.
But who knows.
And if any of those new users at all try to use the software in any real form...they are going to find the forum pretty quickly...since its hard to miss in the software or in the reference section.
Perhaps We are part of the new user count considering we were under Gendai and now Game Salad Edit Dang you Synth! I type this and walk away then hit post and there you beat me to it
@synthesis, Corona has 15,000+ users and you wouldn't know it by listed apps or forum activity...
Exactly. Most people never use forums. I have loads of software that I use a lot, many of them have forums... GS is pretty much the only one I ever visit.
Is there any point starting big projects with GS? If GS Direct happens ( or has happened ) with the % they take and publishing under GS then I wont be staying around here. So is there any real point of starting a big project because I wont be able to update it after the release.
JUST LEAVE GS THE WAY IT WAS!!
EDIT BY POLYGAMe: I merged this with this thread as there is no point starting yet another thread on the same subject. Cheers.
after reading about game salad direct I did big mistake in last 3-4 months.
In may 2010 I heard about gamesalad I did study about this software searching and reading reviews.
In August.2010 I have windows 7 and decided to purchase imac for developing games via gamesalad.
In September I am planing for games and graphics working on it and decided to purchase basic plan after my game full concept and graphic complete.
And in Oct,2010 I got this news about game salad direct. I lost my imac investment because I dont want to share my profit. I have lots of unique ideas for game and one game is almost ready and why did you do this GS.
Please I request you to change your mind and move back to old plan.
I am coming from middle class family and I bought imac and thinking about the basic GS basic plan only because I have confidence on my skill and you di crushed my dreams.

There is nothing out there that allows you to create iPhone apps right now. GS is your only option. You could check out GameMaker, but there isn't a way to self publish yet.
yes agreed, things go round and round and round in this community because of the complete lack of communication from gendai. This thread wouldn't be sounding like a broken record if they had some actual product info, numbers, facts, apologies, honesty, respect..... anything really. The silence perpetuates the negative comments and postings.
Why are there no threads full of people moaning and moaning about feature improvements over on the corona forum? Because the developers give their customers clear and honest responses and reply to all questions as best they can. Also they publish a roadmap of feature improvements, not just some cryptic hints that turn out to be a mask for something no one wants.

I think you'll find the folks at Corona are making the most of this odd situation and doing their best to be polite and respond quickly (and try to convince people to part with their money), as they have been watching these forums. I was at Corona a couple of months back and found the forums void of any help at all... AND I was there as a potential customer. I was weighing up SDKs to "learn" and quickly decided that Corona wasn't right for me as they weren't in the least bit helpful (not to mention I looked at the "showcase" games.

I guess on raw numbers, 1200 new users beats the 180ish 'voices' in this thread.

On another note, I'm trying to stay positive, and hope that GS gives us Pro or something like it.
I'm not holding my breath, but it's not doomsday yet...!
