Thanks for the update GS team, but like some many of us have stated unless you allow us the option to publish to our own itunes accounts we are going to be leaving once our subscription expires!
Like other have said before we do NOT all want a publisher!!!!!!! - You say you will listen and may change the business model, then please do just that, give us the option to publish on our own!!!!!
I have never posted a comment on these forums, but I have to throw my hat in the ring.
The fact of the matter is that regardless of how many hours one pours into building an application with GameSalad, the only output worth a dime is the Xcode. GameSalad Direct takes this away from the users and effectively devalues their creative product outside the GameSalad ecosystem.
This hardly sounds like "democratizing game design." Show me a single democracy that gives people the framework and freedom for production, but then confiscates their output. Saying that I "own" my games after the GameSalad Direct update is insulting.
If you need to rework the current pricing scheme, fine; but do not take away the creative and intellectual freedom that comes with owning our own Xcode and being able to publish under our own identity. I am done using and recommending GameSalad until some clarity is brought on this issue. If nothing else, give those of us who have dumped countless hours into creating an application with GameSalad the right to convert that effort into code that can be ported to another development environment.
Much of what GameSalad uses is open source or is freely available... like Lua and Box2D. It's a good thing for GameSalad that much of us hate to code. Otherwise, this type of rage would have inspired an open source project already.
It's not too late to turn the tide and restore normalcy to the GameSalad community. But unfortunately, the bleeding has been going on for about a week. Some GameSalad developers have already left, switching to other development kits. If GameSalad Direct® launches with no option for professionals, it will force more members of the community to leave.
The longer this issue is left to fester, the more damage it will do to the community.
It's simple logic...
• GameSalad Direct® is basically for beginners. • Without an option for professionals, they will leave. • When you lose good customers you lose money. • When your competitors gain those customers, your competitors become stronger.
BackUpAndDown said: I think the % should be based on the quality of the game. Higher quality apps should be charged a lower % to encourage users to put more effort into what they publish.
I think that's the craziest reply I've read so far. We are trying to get GSD to think before they act on things not encourage them to charge more there is no need for them to charge us more if the app is not up to par maybe they should have a better review system and check things for quality before approving.
Not going to waste too much time writing something that everyone has mentioned. I agree with 90% of the members here that this is a horrible change for developers. I use the term developers over hobbyist or kid getting a low quality game. If you look at 90% of the major hits on the app store, including Angry Birds, WordsWithFriends, PocketLegends, ect... These were all created by developers who have worked in the industry and decided to build apps. Many of the others are similar stories but my point is that by making it free to everyone or even 100$ is what branded GameSalad as a horrible engine. You are just adding to the piles of poop on the app store and now you are basically going to try to destroy what little bit of hope this engine had by forcing everyone to be published under GameSalad.
The only way I would ever use this engine again is if it allowed updates of older games that are under your account already. I will never create a new product as I feel this was a very unethical thing to do. Especially when it comes to pro members like TShirt booth and others who have spent the large amounts of cash paying for your software. He and others should have the right to update all their old games with the new system without having to move anything. Users bought a product under agreed terms and conditions with the intent of keeping their games that they spent long hours creating.
Anyhow, I hope they at least allow others to make updates to their old games, either way I feel that this is definitely not going to help the Iphone market or development which is what I care most about.
GS wants to make money. It looks like the $90/$2000 is not making enough for GS where it needs to continue to operate.
As a developer, I want to make money too. I have many options: develop in XCODE, develop in Unity, in iTorque, in Cocos2D, in GameSalad, or even in Adobe Flash.
If I were an agency, I'd look at something like TapLynx where I don't have to do much development. If I were a large corporation already with a reputation, then a RedLaser technologylicense model makes sense.
At the end of the day, GS has to choose which market it wants to serve. As an independent developer, GSD does not make sense for me.
Well iDeveloper they probably keep deleting the post cause they don't want you exciting more people up I understand your concerns as well trust me. I am going to wait and see what they do if they don't allow me to publish under my own company name then they lost a customer for sure I started DreamSparks, LLC last year and since been trying to promote it myself I don't want to make games for them I want to make them for my company. If they release pro at $199 and still want to charge an uploading fee I'm alright with that.
I'm really hoping that Gamesalad will answer the nagging question everyone wants to know: Is Pro coming back?
This question has come up many, many times, and is a deal breaker for members here.
This will alleviate a lot of anticipation for people, so if this question can be answered soon, then people can decide their future, which I personally hope will be with Gamesalad.
COO mentioned that there will be a GS Player that people can download from the store. That does mean that you all could start your own GS black market, where people buy the game straight from you, and then play it in the GS Player. No money to GS, none to Apple (including no $99 a year), all to you. I wonder how long it will take Apple to realize that could happen?
No, clearly you did not hear us. Why keep making excuses? [like deleting posts where I tell the truth about how much users would loose]
As said earlier, why would I trust someone who can't communicate in a right way with my SSN? I would not.
I think they choose not to answer certain questions, because they are exactly what we feared. It will probably be confirmed right after the new update. First some cool features, then some really bad news( for 90% of us).

They said that the GS player would be specifically for testing.
So I'm guessing that it will take the place of the GS viewer. You will probably have to log in with your GS user and then you can do the same that you can do it the GS viewer
They probably did this because with the current viewer we need an iPhone dev account for making provisioning profiles but by downloading it straight from the app store we wont

Omg! Ur telling us the exact same thing! Where's Micheal Augustin ( CEO ) ! We all want to know is there ever gonna be a Pro! We all want to publish under our ur account! We don't want to be charged from GS ,
U Guys are selling the software! This aint no house for rent! We want something that will be under our names with no charge we don't care how much it cost but we aint publishing anything under GS!
Yeah, but a Pro version for US 400 or 500. Not 2k. Unity and Corona costs this and are superior products. By the way, the guys at Corona are loosing a big chance here. Put a GUI on their Roadmap for the next months. How many customers will continue with GameSalad and GameSalad Direct?

Make it OPEN SOURCE.

RIght now some people are making GS apps that ruin our reputation, but I think that GS direct will push us to make better quality apps.
Maybe this can actually help us gain a good rep, and from there we can be the next Chillingo, or the next Clickgamer...
Again, just a thought.

Bring back pro!
Bring back pro!
Bring back pro!
What the hell is going on! They are taking away Pro? They are taking away the ability to self publish? This will be the death of GameSalad!
Its great to create an option like GS Direct, but to make it the only options in business suicide!
