Starting on new projects that i know will end up having to be published through GameSalad as the publisher just simply isnt an option Im willing to partake in.
And I think a majority of pro devs will feel the same way, which leaves them with what?
I'll keep using GameSalad if this can become an option or they do as I mentioned - which is sell this extended service instead of force users into it. If I truly suck at self promotion but can make decent games... fine I'll make a deal with ya. Otherwise, let me pay once and I'll take care of my product myself.
This just sounds like they are thrashing around to me due to some financial issues. You don't magically start a publishing business thinking you just found the golden ticket when your primary business still has a long way to go. If this idea came from the guys that gave you the million bucks, I say give it back. Some times dignity is a little more important.
So for many of us, this is our 3, 6, 9 month warning.... we can still publish our games as normal but the minute it runs out then we have no choice but to publish via GS...
This gives me a few months to create my next few games but in the meantime I think I should start reading up on corona and Cocos2D.
I was really enjoying makes games, it's a real shame...

We may lose out on using Gamesalad, but we don't have to lose the community. I think a lot of us will part ways into other avenues, but a lot of us may venture into using other similar tools like Unity, Corona, Game Maker etc.
I will continue using and enjoying gamesalad until my license expires, but I will waste no time looking into learning a new tool.

This is the personification of this issue. Darren worked hard on bumps. Gendai Games takes images of that game... puts it on their homepage... and no credit is given.
So, if that's how this new business model starts, it set the tone. It says one word... goodbye!
It's not too late to fix this.
1) Mention Bumps on the homepage... and ask developers if you're going to do stuff like this.
2) Bring back Pro. Ha, there will likely be less complaints about the $1999 annual subscription.
Well, i read the whole thread, it seems like 90% of the voices in this thread are against Gamesalad's new pricing stuff, I'd say most of the users of Gamesalad participate in the forum. It looks like Gamesalad is gonna loose about 75% of it's users by next week....
The only benefit i see from this change is you might get more downloads using GS as a publisher, but you won't get any recognition for your work......
I think all of this is a great idea. although i think they should give the option to go "PRO" 1999$ to publish games under another account. The most important thing for me right now is the new update which i hope is going to come out soon!!!
@danlbryant: Mate, that's not a benefit, GS has a pretty bad name right now. It's not a benefit, that's the problem, it's an obstacle. They should have build a better name first!
I've been reading this thread for about an hour. I honestly don't know where to start.
At first I was angry that we had no idea this was coming; whichever way you look at it GS have just "farked" all of us.
Then I was sad. I cried. A lot.
We have enjoyed a community here; my entire time here I've only met two people who didn't deserve to be a part, one for stealing others apps, one for just being a giant, rude, dbag. Everyone else was fantastic - so helpful, so kind - they were the best part of GS for me. (There are too many to name, but QS and Butterbean, you're both wayyyyyyy up there.)
Then I went back to being angry. Really "farking" angry.
In Australia it is NOT easy to get a dev account with Apple. It's actually ludicrously HARD. You need to get an ABN, which is difficult and time consuming - then you have to apply for GST. That means when you file your taxes you need to do a lot of extra paper work, you have to charge GST on everything in Australia. You sell anything in Australia, even on eBay if registered for GST, and you HAVE to apply GST.
Prior to this whole thing I was largely "out of the system". I am now in the system. I did that in order to use GS to make games. That was my ONLY reason.
I loved GS so damn much until tonight. This is serious like a break up. A bad one, at that - where the person you're splitting from has been lying to you and taking you for granted.
If this doesn't change then I hope GS gets exactly what they deserve; which is to lose every single one of us for good.
Starting tomorrow I'm looking into other tools - I will devote every god damn hour to learning whatever it takes before I hand anything I make over to GS. I might not have a brand to speak of, but my games, whether they rock or suck, are MINE. I made them.
I wouldn't give my bookshelf to Bunnings/Home Depot because it was their hammer to help create it from my material - I'm sure as "fark" not going to give something I've spent months of my life on to GS.
Great community, great people, probably the worst company on earth. (Maybe they're trying for Consumerist's golden "poop" award. Who knows. They've earned it today.)
My license expires come June. Whether I use it between now and then, I don't know. I don't trust GS to let my update previous games after that without them taking some money or some crap like that.
I try to be a positive person and look on the bright side of things, but there is no bright side here. GS now sucks. The lack of info sucks. 25% (or w-ever-tf it is) plus 30% is 55% before we pay taxes, which also SUCKS.
Screw this; seriously. Learning a new program in 6 months is going to be a hell of a lot easier than putting up with this type of crap.
Sigh. I loved (almost) all of you so much </3 - Way to fck up the great community that had been built here, GS.
Yea I really don't think it's a good idea to publish all the games under the name GameSalad. Maybe if they changed the name, it might work. But then they would need to have some quality control on future games that get published.
Game Maker seems the only real non coding option I can see. Just have to hope that it gets iPhone support before my GS subscription runs out.
BeyondtheTech said: Hey, I found a silver lining... If you do not renew your Apple membership, all your apps get pulled from the App Store.
As long as GameSalad is around (I'd be hard-pressed to think they can't pay a $99 fee), then your games and your royalties will stay forever. ...
@BTT surprised you didn't know that... and "As long as GameSalad is around..." is very pertinent to what we are all saying...
as I see it...you gonna have to give your rights/% to GS to keep your previous games in the appStore...
and...realizing how they treat us...I don't think that is a good idea...bet the new ToS reads that they have the right to distribute as they like forever.
and, above all, knowing that they have in their database all our email addresses...yet they chose to announce such a radical change in a public format...don't think I am going to trust them to do my accounting...
the joke was: they got the money and went to Las Vegas...don't think it is a joke anymore...this a crapShoot... and GS is throwing snakeEyes.
I'm trying to be as positive as I can about this. I've always been that hopeful kinda guy. But the recent post by peachpellen just made me slit my wrists in the bathtub. And, I wanted to move to Australia, too. Well, anywhere but New Jersey.

I'm not pouring blood, sweat and tears into a game to not only give it to them, but give them revenue share as well.
I don't see a lot of professional devs doing this.
And the only ones that may do it, may not see the light at the end of the tunnel, and a way out.
There ARE other options. You are not stuck with Gamesalad.
Unity is the way forward for me.
(Although Corona just looks fun)
Although, I'm willing to see what the 1.0 version looks like before I make the final decision.

Do we have any solid info as to percentage of revenue split etc?
Any clear details?

Thank God I bought my express license at the end of September so I have almost 1 year to develop other games
Meanwhile I will start learning cocos2D!
Cheers!

Details? Communication?
Silly man.

Corona is great right about now...
Now the lack of silence makes so much more sense. Of course they have NEVER been good at communication here. :-(
