I am hoping that the tools are significantly improved with the next release. If we are slugging it out through beta for much longer it is going to be a challenge to justify the value with sticking to the tool.

Ditto. This was easily my favourite place to visit.
yup...for sure...they need to give us more solid details of how this is all going to work...and more specific details of how the crossover will work for people still with paid up accounts.
After this bombshell, their silence is no longer something to be accepted. Their communication with the community has always been awful, but right now, they really need to be working with us, or theyre going to lose us.
your terms of service was with Gendai Games and not this new company GameSalad... albeit through GameSalad.com also the fact that that company radically changed from online to hard print advertising...without notifying you ... gives you some rights... as do the copyright laws (If you submitted a story to a division of a publisher...they can not use it another of their product line...without permission.)

If GS does turn down this path that no one seems to be happy with it, I say this; GS has always been big on the community and the community getting together to create games. In order to "stick it to the man" take down all of your YouTube tutorials, go in and delete any post you can find with any solutions to GS functions you have posted. Take away any contribution that you have given to GS and post it on one of the sites a member has made (I know there are a few out there).
I think this will really make a statement to GS and once they see that their beloved community isnt behind them anymore it may make them change their ways.
Thinking back... this is why I got laid off from my job... Maybe I should just become a revolutionist!
My response is: ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! I will either buy one of your original subscriptions or NOT USE your software. I'm already going to be splitting my profits with my sound guy and currently am using GameSalad to develop our game. I would rather pay for your express or pro account - depending on what we decide and pay Apple the $99 fee. This way WE have complete control of our marketing, product, revenue, etc.
Sorry Gendai, but we've already done a lot of planning and want complete control. Our game is fortunately not too complex to code in cocos2d or corona. We chose GameSalad since it is such a wonderful editor and little game engine. Please let us choose which direction we wish to go. I would rather pay you one time. Thank you.
My apologies if this sounds harsh. I love GameSalad... I just really hope we have a choice.
The communication is a crock. I got an email asking me to join the "New Line Cook Program" just over a month ago. The email said "Line Cooks will have access to pre-release versions of software from GameSalad" among other things.
No, an update is still coming. They did mention it before. This whole changing of the guard is a separate situation. 0.8.9 is not the end of the line by any means. Just consider the facts. New cash and new developers - I can only see not just updates, but more frequent updates, and regarding communication - new publishing role, new moderators, more staff - it has to improve drastically.

I would still expect an update soon. They said Pause should be in it a while ago. I'm expecting it to feature Pause, a few improvements, and that's about it. This is just a guess, however.
tshirtbooth said: How did you loose a month of work? You still have express and an update is still coming. Your ok for now
The project we've been working on for over 4 months is a free app for a client that will need updates. Can't be done if this is all true. Our pro subscription is up in sometime in December.
Also, the email said the new program would start on September 13. If I'd had a heads up, I would have started porting to Flash AS3 long before now.
If UDK can charge 25% of your income (after 5000$) without forcing users to publish through them, why can't Gamesalad do the same? Is it that hard to write an contract????
Why don't they offer both subscriptions and a per publish, percentage model? If any percentage is taken, the publishing cost should be free.
Such as:
No apple dev account required options: a) free publishing, % of app sales, (or maybe iAd revenue to GS) GS branded b) $ per app published with GS branded, no %
Apple dev license required options: a) more $ per app, no GS Branding, no % b) yearly subscription, lower per app publishing fee, same features, no GS Branding c) more $ yearly subscription, no publishing fees, same features, no GS Branding

Well in the long run, learning to code will be much more beneficial to us. The Gamesalad platform pretty much locks you in if you have no coding experience, but I guarantee you it is not hard to learn, especially if you have a helpful community of developers.

I'll wait for a little more information before I get heated up.

C'mon GS, a few more details...
After this bombshell, their silence is no longer something to be accepted. Their communication with the community has always been awful, but right now, they really need to be working with us, or theyre going to lose us.
Again.......With no info, we are just having to guess.

I think those rules were the barrier earlier right?
But I would hope not.

When it comes down to it, I'm thinking "what if my app doesn't make any money?"
I'll be requesting a refund later this week and investing that money in something else.
