InfoWeek painted me as supporting the new model and TouchArcade is painting my site as assisting defectors.
I just want to help users make an informed decision. I remain neutral, but I do have to look out for myself, and there's nothing wrong with learning a new language, especially if a lot of game companies use Lua for game development.
The general message seems to be 'If you were going to buy a GS game, don't, because it's unlikely to see any updates in the future.'
This does, of course, neglect to take into account that some of us have pro and express accounts that have many months till they expire. Which means updates as usual.
This in turn creates a two tier system - Legacy users and GS Direct users. Which ends up being confusing for the end buyer I'd imagine.

Call it what you want. If it's the only option to me, I'll take it. I just want to be able to deliver my games. I understand why everyone else is peeved but for me, Direct seems fine... unless of course the residuals are ridiculously high, though I'm not exactly expecting to make a heap, anyway.
Reasons to leave GS for Corona: - Keep your name - No splash screen - No revenue sharing - Staff that are absolutely out-of-this world incredible, in terms of service and attitude - Better game performance - Links! - OpenFeint - Facebook - No cost to compile - Ability to make apps that require access to time and date - Apps can easily be made for the iPhone, iPad and various Android devices
Reasons not to: - No coding
I've spent all of 12 hours reading and doing various simple tutorials a few times; at this stage I'd say by around 50 hours of solid work I could not only recreate every app I've made with GS, but I could improve on them.
Yes, many people will still decide not to learn to code - it's intimidating and very easy to look at a page of text that may as well be Arabic to a non coder and give up.
Those who are so scared, or lazy, or whatever, to learn anything new are going to have NO options if/when GS collapses if this whole thing goes ahead; if nothing else even if someone chooses to stay with GS they should still be trying to improve their skill set if they are serious about making apps.
Thank you for all of the responses to our FAQ. Here are some additional answers based on questions we’ve seen come across.
MarcinMakaj asked: "Will people with an active membership be able to use this PRO featured version of GS, AND publish their game in the old way?"
If you currently hold a “Pro” subscription, you will be able to use the “Pro” featured version of GameSalad Direct and publish “the old way” until your subscription ends. However, if you are an “Express” subscription holder, you will not be able to use certain features that are reserved solely for “Pro” subscription holders (specifically, iAds, custom splash screens and URL forwarding).
this worries me because now they are basicly saying oh now you have to go with gamesalad diredt for custom loading screens iAds and Links!!!!!!!

How'd you work out how long it will take you to learn Lua? I don't see how you can predict something like that...
Anyway, even if I were to become proficient in 50 hours, that's weeks and weeks for me as I don't have the time to put into it... maybe one or two hours a day... I'm guessing most people aren't able to teach themselves Lua full time.
Good on you for doing it, though... I have tried and tried to learn to code, even simple scripting... I get bored... my brain wasn't designed for it ;-)

LOL they ALWAYS seem to have it at 50% off. This whole thing has worked out well for them, even if the GS refugees realise how tough it is and give up... they'll still have their money ;-)

You sure are quite the Corona antagonist.
I think we're simply all weighing our options still. You don't have to fight against that.
We get it. You don't like to code. And yes, anything is harder than Gamesalad. But sometimes difficult things lead to good things if you don't give up.

Hey, if you guys can learn it and start making apps, I'll be all the way behind ya! Just not for me. I don't have the patience. I was just stating that many people have been rambling on about switching to Corona but a lot of them WILL realise that coding is just plain hard. If you can break through that, good on ya! I'm just skeptical that a bunch of people who were attracted to a software package because of its NO CODING ease, even though its loaded with flaws and bugs, will so easily pick up a totally GUI-free dev kit and start producing video games quickly.
There were always much more powerful, feature packed and cheaper alternatives out there... that is nothing new, people came to GS for a reason. Sure, some of us may well leave and stay away if they can get to grips with using Corona... many others just won't have the patience and/or brain capacity/wiring.
I may give Corona another chance at some stage too... but last time I tried and saw I had to do everything in a text editor... my head imploded! Even Unity is a ton easier and I own a Unity iPhone licence, but I'm still here at GS.
Actually, in all honesty, I don't understand this whole "pro Corona" thing. Where are the good games made with that engine? There may be one or two but I've never seen any on their site. Wouldn't a better alternative be Unity? Then you can do 3D AND 2D!
EDIT: Ignore that last bit... forgot about the price difference between Unity and Corona. LOL

You know... I would have to wonder that too... However to their credit, Game Edition has only been out for a little while. Where GS has been available for considerably longer. I know this sounds like a fanboy talking, but I haven't even taken the plunge yet. But 50% off makes it rather enticing.

Are you guys being involved in these discussions?
I see FMG still promoting an upcoming game due in the next four months if not sooner before his license expires.
It would be nice to know if at least any of you guys are being kept on the loop.
RD
Can't speak for anyone else, but as I'm not releasing a game I've not discussed this with GS since before it was announced.
I still like to say 'hi' to the guys every now and again. Just 'cause I'm like that
