The Unity response seemed like just a lot of words to me. I didn't see a definitive solution from their camp either. I prefer the "we're clever" comment. Life is filled with uncertainty. We don't fully know about the challenges that lay hidden before us. But with skill and cunning, one can survive... perhaps even succeed... for adaptability is a requirement of life.
What were the words for the iPad launch? The only thing we had to go on was something like, "Get your games ready for 1024x768 and vise-versa." Not a lot of words there either, but it worked.
`We were surprised to see a more conservative and somewhat uneasy post by the company in the forums then what had been made to us. With something this controversial and frightening for the developers using the tool, we would have thought that a more comprehensive statement would have been made by now to the company blog or this forum thread.`
From the igameradio.com post: "The forum thread regarding this issue is, as of this story printing, eleven pages long, and shows no signs of slowing down. "
Well, duh. There's a FREE SET OF STEAK KNIVES AT STAKE HERE! AND a free t-shirt!
As Swami Paws would say: "OMG, dont U no this iz serius biznezz, d00d!1! 4 reelz! An I saw wut U did thar. 'Steak' + 'stake', LOL."
Hello. Newest GameSalad fan and long-time game industry sla... er, worker, here. If you've been keeping up with my posts, you know my stance on the issue at hand, and it looks something like this: http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/614/rottenapple.jpg I think what Apple is doing is borderline criminal, since it destroys existing assets of parties that are neither Apple nor Adobe. I would love as many indie devs to stand up and proclaim that this isn't happening without a fight.
I've been saying all along that there should be laws to protect users from this sort of thing, and it turns out that there are, in the UK.
I quote: "The law in question specifically applies to retailers not manufacturers, and requires that goods:
* comply with the description given by the seller and posses the same qualities and characteristics as other similar goods. * be fit for the purpose which the consumer requires them and which was made known to the seller at the time of purchase."
There is precedence for requesting a partial refund (looks like 20%, in the case of that article) when you've purchased something, and updates and agreements have caused it to become less effective or less useful to you.
I heard that Apple had (and may still have) a section which talks about using third-party software, including Unity on a site owned by them... And of course, every time you go into the App store and see a Unity or Gamesalad-made app featured, what Apple is essentially doing is advertising that the iPhone is capable of playing those games. Not to mention, Steve Jobs Himself played Tap Tap Revenge to demo the new OS, oblivious to the fact that it violated the new agreement. (Source: http://www.taoeffect.com/blog/)
I hope you take note of this, Gendai. I would appreciate a direct response, if possible... I would say that if the law is as I think it is, Apple owes EVERY UK iPhone owner a 20% refund! That just might make them think twice about keeping their draconian agreement intact.
Maybe it's time for the companies that are affected by this agreement to put some money together and hire a good lawyer?
Hey, I can't help that I have a stalker. This is what happens when you make the best game ever in the mountain busing genre of games. Let this be warning to you all!
@RevolvingDoor So who has a couple million dollars and about 3 years of time to get "legal" with Apple? Not me.
What I am hearing is that companies that are building intermediaries that "break Apple's dev rules" are subject to being blocked. Those that work within the "rules" will not. To me this is a "fair business practice" on Apple's part. Had Adobe built CS5 to comply with the SDK standards...they would be in a pinch. But instead...they build their own compiler (from what I understand) and Apple doesn't want that...as a sets a bad precedence and can cause significant functionality problems down the road for the device.
So if GS or any other intermediary software wants to remain in the game...they will need to be compliant to the SDK API structure. Otherwise...they won't be allowed in.
To me that is not criminal of Apple to impose...its like having a speed limit and a requirement to stay on the road. If you decide to disobey the rule and decide to drive all over Apple's lawn...they might get pissed right? Well Adobe was caught doing donuts in the flowers and now they have been pulled over and having their license suspended. Its basically that simple.
If GS decides to short cut and drive across the lawn too...then they will also get a warning or have their keys taken away until they agree to stop driving on the grass.
@TSB and others... Go play pattycake on another thread. This one is serious...and the outside world is reading it and you guys look like a bunch of Junior High idiots to them for sure...which pretty much fuels GS's reputation as a taptard generator with unsophisticated programmers.
If you go on Unity, Torque or any other forum thread on this topice...they don't act like this...they act like intelligent programmers...not HS slackeys. Someone important at Apple is reading this you can be certain....and so is the press...as this thread is active with Gendai presently.

I agree with syn we should ban SteakKnivesForSciTunes. Somebody tell Gendai
from touching their multi-touch,
The response was inevitable
they didn't like it very much.
Adobe counted losses
A future of diminished wealth,
Then maturely told Apple,
“Go screw yourself!”
Should Adobe have asked permission?
Build software that people like?
“Sod ‘em, we’re Adobe!
We can do just what we like!”
Should Apple be more open?
Allow all code, however gruesome?
Just so adobe can scratch their ass,
And hold the world to ransom?
Now the rest of us are begging
"Please give us a sign!
Are all our other dev tools
in the firing line?".
Apple said “dunno.
We’re just making this stuff up”
Just do everything we tell you,
And buy our iPad pup.
Some of us were confident
"No problem! we’ll get through it",
Others cowered under duvets
“Oh !@#$% oh !@#$% oh !@#$%!”
But Gendai stepped in to the fray
to calm the gaming nation,
“Man we’re clever people,
Here’s Johny Constellation!”
