It seems like most of Apple's SDK "restrictions" are completely arbitrary. No emulators have been permitted from the start, yet apps such as SID players, C64 emulators, etc. have popped up over the last few years. But who knows how this will effect GS users, especially those express users with the tell tale start screen. However, random acceptance through brute force is not acceptable.
The only good way around it would be GS to be some sort of code generator, where the output was 100% source code (in particular an uncompiled xcode project would probably be easiest for most). This would, inadvertently, allow a lot of us to tweak and add unsupported features...learn how to code a little...(easier to modify than to create from scratch)...but would also give away the keys to the castle as all GS would be source.
Alternatively, If a binary library was included, with generated source that called this binary library (the binary library consisting of the game engine and very thin wrappers around Apple APIs)I don't really see how that would violate the rules either. Thats how you write software....frameworks...etc...
If done properly, GS apps would run much faster, and maybe these types of policies will force GS to morph into something much better than before. This would be way more complicated then an XML interpreter, but at this point its sink or swim.
I bought the express package specifically because I wanted to determine if i could get ROI by purchasing pro....up until the 4.0 license, i was pretty sure i could. Im behind you guys (GS) 100% for finding a solution, but I will wisely hang onto my $2k until then...as i may have to just hire an entry level developer for my next project.
If anyone needs a distraction, or are sick of this and looking for a different trade, i have some helpful tips on other professions. http://www.mrfunkleberry.blogspot.com/
I've been looking through the Unity forums and found this post:
"So here's the screwy part about all this. The last couple times I submitted updates I got an email from Apple saying that my apps are using external API's and that it's prohibited. They also said that they were going to go ahead and accept them, but that I should look into not using external API's. This tells me that the rules apply to Unity, but that for whatever reason Apple is not enforcing it..."
Has anybody using GS received any such rejection/warning notice? If not...we may be in the clear...and Unity is doomed with Adobe. They may not be enforcing the blockade until the 22nd...but warning users prior.
I've submitted updates myself after signing the agreement, and had no trouble, but the true test will be a new app I just submitted. I'll keep you posted
so...no response from yodapollo or any other GS chef? am I in trouble for putting him on the spot? I really didn't meant to...I just thought that what he said sort of made sense and like butter bean mentioned, we just need closure.
oh well, if u don't hear from me tomorrow...that means I got banned or temporarily put on time out
either way, I'm on a deadline on my day job...might not be able to post...maybe during lunch time
perhaps if this thread does go to 500, TSB can give a free T-shirt...winner pays shipping and handling...huh? what do y'all think?
I have also found a recent official blog statement from the Unity people regarding the same situation for Unity...which Unity appears to be potentially even more at risk of being less 4.0 compliant than GS. This statement appears to be their most recent...written by their CEO.
Now if only Gendai would do something similar...and take some sort of official and clear stance. These cryptic "suggestions" they offer on occasion are not helpful.
I think I'll be kind of worried and relief at the same time if Gendai CEO actually comes to this post and says something similar (worried cuz it doesn't sound too promising and relief that someone at the top cares for us devs and is fighting for the future of their product).
oh well...let's just wait and see...now about that tshirt and knife contest ;~)
How mature, how responsible, how not "Wayhey! isn't this just great! We're so clever! Aren't we just great?! Yeah! Johnny Johnny WoooHooo! My brain is smashing brick walls!! Gonna rip the world apart with my cleverness!! Yay! Skidding on my knees! Brilliant! Yeehaww!!"
"perhaps if this thread does go to 500, TSB can give a free T-shirt...winner pays shipping and handling...huh? what do y'all think? "
Right on. How about one with the GameSalad logo and: "I got the thread to 500 posts, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt. And some steak knives." (He can sell ones with "Apple changed the ToS, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" to all the Flash devs. )
(Not to imply that TSB's fine apparel offerings are anything less than fine, of course! ^_^)
Only... I once bought a t-shirt from A&F and i'm pretty sure the label said i'm not allowed to wear any other t-shirts. In fact i'm not even sure i'm allowed to wear t-shirts at all anymore. Don't panic people i'll look into it, and keep you posted.
I'd like to hear from a Chef too, but it really looks like we're good here. It may actually be illegal according to Apple's TOS- but they might not enforce it, just for Adobe lol

Or are you refering to the link rdcube sent?
Good find btw rdcube!

edit: oh nevermind, it's a whole separate thread. I found it.
Here ya go Orbz! I wouldn't jump for joy yet, but it's slightly reassuring
not advised for the easily offended.
Long live the Whispers Thread!

are these steak knives stainless with full tang?
@Everyone.
BTW... I think Yoda and the gang sounded pretty confident.

Sorry.
LMAO!!!
The torturous reality is...you aren't all that far off with that jest.

But good luck to the rest of you!
