Game Center - NO EXCUSE! It should be included in the 0.9.3 update!

More embarrassing reasons Game Center should be added to GameSalad immediately...
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=84119

If you could edit the game code yourself, it would take about 3-4 hours. Even the long answer of 3 days is not 3-6 months.

Apple did all the heavy lifting. GameSalad should add Game Center support in version 0.9.3.

Maybe they are scared of trying to implement offline storage and syncing. I know I would love to see it.

Is it on their road map?

When they released 0.9.1, Yoda indicated it was, but I sent him a message asking when they would provide us with an official road map, and he didn't respond. Hopefully GameCenter is in 0.9.3.

    Exactly. :)

Hopefully one day we will all be in the loop. Kind of like being in the Matrix but without tight fitting latex.

He has also stopped responding to me about a roadmap. The communication thing lasted all of a week and a half.

I prefer Gamecenter, in-app purchasing and social networking integration! These are the 3 things we need to become more competitive on the appstore! The memory leak isnt just 1, its lots of little ones that are getting fixed with each release. If i have to quickly save and open up again then thats annoying but it can be done, what i cant currently do is add gamecenter, in-app or social aspects!

Can we stop beating a dead horse?

Seriously guys, it's like listening to a broken record. We get it, GameCenter is important (and I agree) but correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a majority of the iPhone install base still on the 3G with no access to gamecenter?

A second generation iPod Touch isn't exactly a high standard...
    http://www.apple.com/game-center/

So basically it's all the millions of iPads, all the millions of iPhone 4 devices on Verizon and AT&T, it's all of the good iPod Touches, and it's even on the dated 3GS iPhone.

Approximately 90% of iPhone users are on iOS 4.

So, in response to your first question...

    No!

The GameSalad team asked the community for their opinion. They wanted to know what features should be worked on next. Game Center is the clear answer. This thread is a reminder of that answer.

The Mac App store is so far less important than Game Center, so how did that happen? How did a fairly involved update happen before a fairly basic addition of Game Center?

IT'S GAMESALAD... so it's pretty sad that it doesn't support GAME CENTER.

    @dizko photics is right.

Im not one to complain at all, but look threw some reviews of games without gamesalad. Your basically guarenteed to see at least 1 or 2 reviews that say wow i didnt even know they made games without gameceneter anymore or something along that lines. It gets discouraging quick. The way the markets shapping if your game doesnt have gameceneter, you have a less and less change of gettting sales. People are starting to completly turn away from anything that doesnt have gameceneter.

Game center wont make a bad game good by anymeans, or turn a game that flopped into a hit, but without it you have a lesser chance of getting reconized

Again im not complaining at all, Just some food for thought.

No yellow posts, no interest from Gendai, so much for more community integration.... :/

Would also like to hear that a grid ( and snap ) functionality is coming soon, can't believe that it doesn't exist already !?

Imagine if EA made a game for the XBox360 without any XBox Live features.

Now replace EA with "any IOS developer" and XBox Live with "GameCenter".

Ok.. I exaggerate a little...but you get the idea.
Personally, as a punter, I don't pay too much mind if a game has GC or not (I am probably older than the majority of GC users though)....Until I have a game I know my friends have. Then, the Leaderboard aspect to it is cool.

As a developer though, I think it's a great thing to have in a game. It adds so much more replay value to a game.....especially the game we have in development at the mo.

So.. I guess I am complaining that we don't have it yet... but I (personally) am more complaining about the lack of any communications....again......

I believe that this is the bigger issue. I don't quite understand why it is so hard for one of them to pop a head in and say "yes we're working on it" or "no we're not working on it"

iOS 4.3 will drop support for 2nd gen devices meaning lots of app are going to start not working for them.
That combined with 3GS are now $50 bucks. People are going to upgrade.

And regardless of that both of my games have reviews both from review sites and on itunes that knocked for no GameCenter. I don't even know what I would do with GameCenter in those two games but it doesn't matter its what everyone wants to see.
  • SparkyidrSparkyidr Member Posts: 2,033
    @Dizko

    That's just the problem.

Yoda did pop on whilst we were waiting for 0.9.1 to hit saying that they WERE working on it, but that he would try and get some more info for us.

And since then...the tumbleweeds have re-appeared.

That's not really that true. Yes, 4.3 won't be supported for the 3G phones, but that doesn't mean apps will stop working. Most games/apps are backwards compatible, assuming it doesn't use features exclusive to certain models or OS (front camera, compass etc)

I don't disagree what we need Gamecenter, and I've noticed the reviews too. But I don't know how helpful it is to start threads every other day about it.

Once apple stops support it is a huge green light to devs to stop support. I believe you will quickly see more and more apps requiring armv7 or better in the months following iOS 4.3

I disagree, you won't see that happen. Supporting only the bleeding edge is a very risky thing to do. Supporting maybe 4.0+ ... maybe, but going specifically 4.3 and above, would be ridiculous to do. And currently doesn't GameSalad support everything from 3.2 and up? Why would you expect this to change with a increment version of the iOS?

Historically, when members of this forum rally around an issue, pointing out something that is detrimental to the software/community, the GameSalad team notices and responds adequately.

    Examples...

    • GameSalad Direct®
    • The price of Pro
