I think all this talk of how easy it is to plug game centre into an xcode project, is kind of missing the point about why it's not "that" easy for them to implement for us.
It's not really a case of just plugging it into the back end...they have to build tool sets that actually allow us to USE said features using the rules and behaviours system, and be just as seamless and easy to use as say.....making something move left or right. (if you get what I mean)
With that said....the silence is yet again deafening.
That's what they do though. It's hard to build a house or bake a cake. This is the business they're in. If they can't add Game Center to GameSalad, it doesn't reflect well on their business.
Thanks again Photics for summing up what I was trying to say
@Sparky: That makes some sense... but, it truly would not be that difficult at all to implement (coming from a previous Xcode developer that is). And anyways, even if it wasn't easy, they should at least tell us like everyone here is saying... Yoda, if your even out there... PLEASE RESPOND!!
i think the end all be all is, if Corona goes drag and drop, or gets a 3rd party drag and drop (something like SpriteDeck but closer to GS)... there is NO reason to stay with GS!
amirite?
im so tired of the "oh we're working on it..." did that !@#$% fly when your parents kept promising to buy that new N64 game when you were a kid? No, you got pissed because you saw all the neighborhood kids (whos parents loved them) playing Mario Kart 64 at sleep overs and u were stuck with nothing... but knew you had to stick with your parents because they took care of ur living/eating/housing (non coding in our case) needs. probably a fucked up metaphor but i'm half joking of course.
just give a damn straightforward answer for once wtf is so hard? is Yoda an android or something?
Edit: and i am MORE than willing to put myself up for adoption if Corona catches up

You wrote "if" but it's really a matter of "when". Even if Corona doesn't add a visual editor, a third-party developer can do it... and there are developers that are working on it right now!
I hate coding. It's so slow, so backwards. The computer processes the information faster than I can, so it should talk my language. It's so much easier to use GameSalad. Yet, I've looked at future scenarios and it doesn't look good for GameSalad. I've come to the conclusion that if I want to be successful, I have to learn Corona. So, I've already started.
Wow, there are so many little things that GameSalad takes care of for you. Right now, I'm struggling with Resolution Independence. In GameSalad, it's a simple checkbox - AMAZING!
Yet, there's currently no way to port my GameSalad game to Android and there's no universal binary support. Those are severe limitations. So even though GameSalad is easier, it's becoming too limited.
How does this problem get fixed?
Well, the GameSalad team is hiring. So, that helps. Yet, is it enough? The software is closed. What if we could create our own custom behaviors?! That would likely speed up the development process.
So, it's a race.
Which team will get Game Center first? When will Corona get a visual editor?
It's not just Game Center, it's things like Universal Binaries, UIwebview, android, database, arrays, in-app purchases, networking, vector graphics — NO FORCED SPLASH SCREEN. If a visual editor is added to Corona, GameSalad could fall so far behind that it ends up out of business... taking our GameSalad projects with it! Without a running server, GameSalad games cannot be updated.
That's why GameSalad has to stock up on features NOW! It has to prepare for the coming competition. If the team can't even add Game Center in a timely fashion, then that shows a huge risk for GameSalad developers.

I'm with QS in that I really am tired of hearing how corona is going to overtake GameSalad if they don't step up real soon. But Photics has some really good points and I would really like to see a legit response here from GS on this.
Ever since (dare I bring this up) the whole GameSalad direct thing, seems like this has been on a decline for a lot of people here.
If the team are working on some cool stuff for us......they should maybe talk about it. The guys over at "that other SDK" are forever going on about the cool new features they have lined up.
Over here......not so much.
If people think nothing is happening behind the scenes (which I'm sure is far from the truth), people will get itchy...and talk of leaving....and telling others how the grass is greener over yonder...etc
A quick look around this forum of late, and you will see that happening.
tenrdrmer said: I'm with QS in that I really am tired of hearing how corona is going to overtake GameSalad if they don't step up real soon.
You don't get it tenrdrmer, once corona does get drag and drop, they WILL take over GameSalad... if you or QuantumSheep don't want to here our opinions, then don't post... Like Photics, I too am teaching myself Lua just to be on the safe side... I was once confident in GameSalad, but without ANY communication from them (besides the one post), I just can't be..

While you're learning lua, could you post less please? Ta!
Why does no-one go to the Corona forums and say 'You know, once you get drag and drop, you guys will rock! Till then...'
You claim to know Xcode. Lua should be a breeze for you. Seriously. So I have to ask...
Why are you here? What exactly is the point of you?

Well that's nice of you!! Don't I have a choice to be here? I do know how to program in Xcode and it is nothing like programming in Lua (except for a few things, that's it)... I can post as many times as I want, you don't need to tell me what I can or can't do!! More than likely, people have already put that on the Corona forums... The point of me is to try to create the best games that I can create and make money off of them.
OB p.s: Like I said in my last comment, if you don't care about other people's opinions than stop posting here!!
oberning said: The point of me is to try to create the best games that I can create and make money off of them.

Really? Is that it? Seems more like the point of you is to mention Corona all the time, moan/whinge and make sniping comments at GamesSalad/GameSalad staff/users.
What people who moan about lack of features and this and that (and yeah, I know I do that a fair bit) don't realise is....Gamesalad does A LOT in the background that you take for granted
Scenes Memory management Res independence
Sure we could all go and learn how to code. If you really are determined and put the time in, it's not really that difficult.(Especially Lua and Corona)
The fact is, a lot of us here, are here because we don't WANT to code.
I am a musician/studio engineer by trade. I went to Uni and did computer science and Business I.T....I used to be an I.T. Manager for a software house.
I know about coding..I just don't want to do it.
Rather than : Make object {x,20,y,240] attach graphic {bums.png}
etc etc
I want to SEE where I am putting my "Bum" object onscreen.
And at the mo, you can really on;t get that with GS.
That said...they do need to pull their fingers out, and get some new features in there.
But at this moment in time.. GS are the leaders when it comes to drag/drop/publish....all be it with some other players hot on their heals.
Would be nice to have some kind of official words as to the future...but we know from experience that's not going to happen.
Yes that is it, I am trying to create the best apps that I can.... The whole reason that I (and Photics, might I add) mention Corona is because we are comparing the differences between both of the softwares... I am not trying to begin a fight with any one else, I am just trying to say that GameSalad staff should worry more about their users... if they pay $500 a year for GameSalad, then why does the staff not respond? And how was I making sniping comments to you and other users? I like that you and others have opinions, and then I just provide a counter-argument, that's it...
I also know some coding but I don't like it, it takes the creativity out of it for me. GS let's me make changes quickly and see if I like it. I choose to stay with GS for this convenience.
Do I wish that they would be more open like Yoda has said many times? Of course I do. I do have faith that they will be adding some really cool features and in the mean time I'm going to keep learning the ins and outs of GS. The thing is if GS is keeping you from making your "great" game you should find the tools you need and go build it, if you can't wait then go to Corona. I have seen some excellent games come out of GS, some I wish I can do myself. I just think ragging on GS everyday is not helping anybody out, if it sucks that bad maybe it's time to move on.
They have said they are working on implementing game center, it's a lot more difficult than you think. It's easy for people to integrate game center into their ask games because it's just added some code. They have to code it in their backend language, and then implement a system that makes it easy for people to use. This is no small feat. Saving and iAds are extremely easy to use and people still have problems with it.
As car s corona goes, they have their own forums, go talk about it over there.

Man I go out for a couple hours and it blows up here. LOL
Here's my take. If you prefer corona, love corona, want to marry corona. Go talk about it on there forums. It does no good but throw fuel on the fire for you to sit here and go on about how your leaving as soon as they add drag n drop. How bout this. go now and then tell them your going back to GameSalad if GS gets GameCenter first. Then your happy will corona and you can come back to the crapper once it gets GameCenter.
its pretty odd you go on about how its so much better yet here you are using GameSalad. you must not like it enough to deal with coding.
QS, tenrdrmer, jon, everyone who's telling us to leave to Corona... YOURE MISSING THE POINT!
The point trying to be made is not that Corona is amazing, at the end of the day we're using GS. We're just trying to help GS get better and make suggestions. It's not about how good Corona is. And also we have a right to be frustrated. Their not doing a good job by baiting us over and over. I could see it if they never said a word, but Yoda is the king of false promises and it just keeps us waiting. All we're saying is that the waiting is going to end if there are other options for people who don't want to code (not even just Corona, anything).
Like seriously let me ask you all something: If Corona went full drag and drop like GS tomorrow, would you still be here?
Its just about the fact that GS is GREAT GREAT GREAT but is missing key things that separate the boys from the men in terms of App Store games nowadays. Stop taking everything so personally you all sound like the biggest fanboys. Just cus you use a product doesn't mean its not flawed. GS could be so much better, thats all we want. We want the same goals.
P.S. I never bash GS. I always just ask Yoda for a real answer. Am I a bad person for that? If he said "GameCenter will take about 9 months." Then I will be more than happy to get out of your sacred forum and go to Corona.
Am I the only one who doesn't care that we don't have Game Center yet? I'd like it but it certainly isn't making me look elsewhere. I'm planning on releasing my first and second game in the next month both obviously without Game Center and frankly I don't care. I think they stand out on their own without it.

It's not about not needing it for the game your working on now. That's great for you, but there's plenty of games i've seen here that could have benefited from it. Major dev's here have said they wanted it themselves. And also why limit ourselves? Why do we have to settle for less? Eventually you may want to use GameCenter in a game. That's why this thread is here.
Why? That doesn't make sense to me. I really like GameSalad, but if Corona had an editor, what would be the advantage to GameSalad?
Well, you can make GameSalad games for free. It's the professional subscribers that would have problems.
And yeah, to truly appreciate GameSalad, using Corona is a great idea. Now that I figured out "resolution independence", I'm working on creating "rules". Ha ha... to just get something to happen when the "mouse button" is "down", is not easy for me... yet.
