The last few days have been pretty crazy, and I sure as hell am not the only one that thinks that GameSalad needs to do something... Again, I'm sorry if everything I said came across in a different way, I just wanted people to realize that Gendai needs to do something in order for them to survive and thrive.... Maybe I should just stop posting on the forums and just go back to looking at them.... sorry I love this community and I love this software, but it needs help to make it succeed!!

I agree, if we were to have GameCenter in our apps, it would sell much better (how much, idk). I hope your wrong about your second statement, however, because if they keep releasing only one update per month (or longer) than it would take too long to release it. By which time, they would be even farther behind. It sounds like it would be a good time though, if they were to release it sooner...
Just like games/apps.... products needs to be compared to have room for improvements. A few years back Gamesalad has no close competition (except for cocos2d but thats different) thats why you cant compare it to other game engine. But with the recent development of other game engines its inevitable. The only way i can see gamesalad stand out again is to catch up with features that other engine have or dont have yet. Right now the only advantage of GS is the Drag & Drop, while the Corona has its own advantage as well (OpenFeint).
Im fairly new to GS but not with game programming. I know how to use XCode but like what the other guyz said here it takes the creativity you have in mind since you need to focus on coding. IMHO with the current version of GS with the Mem leak, crashing every now and then, force Splashscreen it's not worth 499USD.
People keep mentioning about GameSalad falling further behind. I dont agree with this, they're the only ones doing drag and drop in this way, they're in front for the time being!
Next GameSalad doesnt listen .... um ... pretty sure it does! Lets see, $2000 for pro is too much ... ok , now $500. They listened and amended prices. Then they done a whole lot of work to become publishers and announced this, we all said no way so they scrapped it and came up with a new model. We kicked and screamed about iAds, we got it.
Soooo the morale of the story is ... They DO listen. They've heard what we want, they said its coming and that it is a priority. How much we moan on here isnt going to change when they release GameCenter, i believe that its a priority to them so lets let them crack on with it. Yes the new features are slow to come, we know this, so shouldnt we expect it? Again, if you need GameCenter right now, then use another tool.
On another note, with the way Corona users harp on about it, i thought Corona had GameCenter dialled in a long time ago? I know its coming soon but jeez!

Yes, GS listen. But the only thing is they need to hire more people, because the updateing rate is too slow

the upside to that is my game is no where ready anyways for gamecentre or submission. the gs guys will probably make it easy so i can just plugin a behavior like iads okay back to working on my game
beefy_clyro said: They know this, thats why they're recruiting
Carlos at Ansca Mobile... see, I didn't write the "C" word... made an announcement that Game Center is on the way. Also, it's being added to the SDK in the same way I suggested GameSalad should add it...
Leadboards and Achievements first... ...then multiplayer later.
I've warned you about Carlos. He appears to be highly competitive. In the GameSalad announcement he posted,
"In our business, there is no second place".
Do you need any more proof?!
It would be great if both SDKs could co-exist, like a screwdriver and a hammer in a toolbox? But the problem is... the SDKs are becoming quite similar and one is aiming to surpass the other.
After watching this thread g o chaotic i'm finally going to throw in my opinion. Can everybody just chill out?? Notice how corona sdk doesn't have GameCenter yet either, so why are you saying it's so much better? For all we know GameSalad could release it WAY before them!
I believe that sometime this year a book will surface that teaches those new to scripting how to recreate the drag and drop methods with si ple code. Most likely and because of the huge demand there will be more material than just one book and after that, the playing filled will be ripped open. Everybody has the freedom to choose which SDK to use as lack of knowledge will no longer limit those new to making apps and games.
I am ready to buy the first information, be it compiled in what ever format, which helps me to recreate my existing rules!
I can see and taste that some day my apps will open straight to the menu. NO SPLASH!
Anyone who finds such book or ifo please let me know so that I can buy!
xyloFUN said: I can see and taste that some day my apps will open straight to the menu. NO SPLASH!
Myself and many other sous-chefs have been arguing this point exactly to the powers that be. I think it's safe to say they're working on a compromise/solution.
>Notice how corona sdk doesn't have GameCenter yet either
They do currently have Openfeint and facebook and whatnot. (and also have put a post up about GC support coming, on their site)
My point has always been.... if the powers that be here were even just a teeeeeny tiny amount more forthcoming with information about what is going on behind the scenes, it would stop the majority of all these shenanigans, and we can all just get on with what we are here to do (make games that is btw)
Well they always tell us "Oh yeah we are so excited because we just hired someone to post a lot of information", but then after that post.... back to silence!

Don't forget about iTorque 2D, it also has Drag n Drop
Xpandemic said: Don't forget about iTorque 2D, it also has Drag n Drop
yeah and they are selling it at low price of 99USD right now. But i'll stick to GS for now coz i still have faith in GS team even though their a bit slow IMHO.
Want GS to hire more people? go pro... you need money to pay people, most of us are using it for free so we do not have the right to tell them to go and hire.
Corona are doing Gamecenter before GS? maybe, but iAds (or any ads) is a requested feature from day one and they still don't have it. It sits on their high priority list forever and nothing happens. I'm not saying that they are bad, I actually like both Corona and GS, but each have its challenges and delays.
Everybody assumes that they will make more money with Gamecenter, if it will come as a Pro feature will you go pro or will you say that it should be free?
Gabbyr said: Corona are doing Gamecenter before GS? maybe, but iAds (or any ads) is a requested feature from day one and they still don't have it.
Here are some of the features Corona has that GameSalad should have.
os.time - Something like this should take like two minutes to add to GameSalad. I'm not the best programmer in the world, but I think I could build such a behavior if I had the access.
Why is this feature important? You could build games like FarmVille and CityVille... some of the biggest online games ever! You could also make virtual pet games, or add time-sensitive graphics to your games... like sunsets.
facebook - I'm not on Facebook, but it's one of the biggest sites in the world now. It's a way to market games. It's a way to get people excited about playing games.
vibrate - If this wasn't an important feature for gamers, there wouldn't be things like the "Rumble Pack" for the N64. There was some drama about the PlayStation 3 controller too, as it wasn't always available in the sixaxis controller.
arrays - I better understand what this does. It creates amazing possibilities and a way to simplify programming
in-app purchases - GameSalad usually beats Corona with new features, like iPad, iAds and the Mac App Store, but I was surprised to see that Corona beat GameSalad to launch with in-app purchases Support. Some of the top grossing games on the iTunes App Store got there with in-app purchases.
networking - GameSalad is a closed box. It can't pull data from the outside. If it could, there would be new possibilities in game design.
UIWebView - By adding a web popup, I basically add other programming languages to the mix... like javascript, CSS and HTML.
Video - This is not really hard to add. If I can get it done in Xcode, the GameSalad team should be able to do it. The forced splash screen is a video. They added a video for themselves... that most developers don't want... but they didn't add video for everyone.
Universal Binaries - Not everyone likes this idea, as launching the same game twice could lead to more sales. Yet, my app library is getting cluttered. I like the idea of being able to streamline my apps. That little plus icon also shows that extra work was put into the app.
Android - I don't like Android phones, but apparently the majority of smartphone owners think otherwise.
No forced splash screen - And ultimately, Corona doesn't feel it's necessary to have a logo before every app... and Corona is cheaper. Instead, Corona gained popularity through the success of Bubble Ball. That game didn't have a forced splash screen, but people found out about the software anyway. (Actually, I didn't even download the game and I heard it was made with Corona. I'm assuming it doesn't have a forced splash screen because Corona doesn't have such things.)
The lesson from that... keep developers happy so that they can make better games. If developers are making better games, they'll be more successful. If they're more successful, others will wonder how they got so successful. That's how people can learn about GameSalad.
Stop tarnishing your brand and developer apps with a forced splash screen. It doesn't work for you. I can understand a splash screen on the basic version, but $499 a year is a lot of money for the "professional" software.
Gabbyr said: Everybody assumes that they will make more money with Gamecenter, if it will come as a Pro feature will you go pro or will you say that it should be free?
I think Game Center should be a "professional" feature. That way, the GameSalad team would have more money to add additional features. Although, I also think they should let the GameSalad developers know that beforehand. Let the community know before the feature is launched. They could say something like this...
"Hey everybody, Game Center is about three weeks away. It will launch with Achievements and Leaderboards. It will be a feature for professional subscribers. So, you might want to get ready for the launch."
Instead, we're left to wonder about the future of the software. That's why I've started learning Corona.
Maybe I should join the beta test and help out the GameSalad team. Maybe that would help speed things up. Even better... maybe there shouldn't be a secret beta test team. There shouldn't be a big surprise to the community when a new update is launched and the testing would be better.
this thread is not a discussion of what corona offers, that belongs over on the corona forums. this thread was to talk about gamecenter, which is turning into this years iAds. GameCenter WILL NOT increase your sales. you need a good game to do that. All it will do is help entice people to keep coming back, and generate more awareness of your game.
keep it on track or I'm going to close it. if you want to talk about corona, they have their own forums.
With this feedback the GameSalad team can correct the problems with the software and make it even better.
A decent programmer could add the following features into GameSalad in less than a day...
• os.time • vibrate • video • facebook
I like Corona too, but I'd rather code something once than have to do it every time. It's unfortunate that we can't make our own behaviors.
I see GameSalad tries to generate popularity by having a Twitter and Facebook site, but it wouldn't have to if Facebook / Twitter features were in the software. The developers could be doing it for them.
